The MAIN reason Trump won - low-paying jobs, part-time jobs

Anonymous
Most people are living paycheck-to-paycheck. I know I am. I make $85,000/year but I take home $59,950 AFTER TAXES and Social Security. So I am struggling to get by. I have over $30,000 in student loans and I live with 4 roommates. Even if I were making 6 figures, I'd get killed in taxes.

My income bracket is like the top 30 percent for a single male, which is incredibly sad. I know lots of folks my age struggling to find good employment. Employers are taking advantage of the poor economy by creating "internships" that pay peanuts and "part-time gigs" so as to avoid paying for healthcare.

I mean, most of the jobs created now are Uber jobs and Amazon warehouse jobs. Not exactly the type of jobs needed to make a living. And if you "get educated" and "learn skills", you will still get penalized during TAX SEASON!

So I get why folks voted Trump. The economy sucks. Hillary didn't offer any solutions to fix the economy. Trump made his campaign specifically about JOBS! JOBS! JOBS! I completely understand why people fell for this mad man. Yes, he's a mad man and a moron but the economy has improved and stock market is up... so I am rethinking my opinion about him.

True. It's the economy, stupid.

Can you imagine a single mother working 10 hours a week at two part-time jobs, working her a$$ off to feed her 2 kids, and watching Hillary during the debate say Trump said mean things! and Trump is a racist!

And at the same time she hears Trump say he'll create more GOOD-PAYING jobs.

I'm pretty sure this single mother's listening will find Trump more appealing because she feels he's talking directly to her and her needs.

Exactly. Also, the fact that people on this board actually do not know this speaks to the obliviousness of the liberal elite.

Did you mean 10 hours a DAY?

And unemployment is down under Trump, the lowest in 17 years. I believe I heard it's below 4%, which is considered "full employment." That's showing up in food stamp usage, too, which is down after a big uptick under Obama. Business is booming.

The jobs created under Obama were largely part-time, too, and that was in response to Obamacare regulations. He unwittingly created a disincentive to bringing on full-time staff. So you ended up with more people like your single mother example, struggling with two PT jobs, and where neither pay benefits.

Precisely. Trump was talking about creating jobs while Hillary was saying he was mean to a beauty pageant contestant. She thought that would resonate with people struggling to pay the bills? Another example of how out-off touch she was.

Well, that was dumb. Trump doesn't give one whit about people who are MC and below. So good luck with that! I will likely be getting a tax break. Thanks!

Trump is a charlatan. If you could not figure that out, you deserve all of the stupidity we are now getting.

Yes but what people fail to realize is the President has no control over jobs really. This is a corporate America problem and a dramatic shift in economies. True the president can influence the overall economy but the paradigm shift would happen regardless of who is in. So now we have a President who promises to turn back the clock to 1950, which won’t happen, while also dismantling our social safety net that serves Americans.

The situation OP describes is not new under Obama or Trump. The fact is, OP is doing better than most of America being a single male employee with $59k is clear take home pay.

The tax bill being proposed won't help OP; the macro legislative agenda won't help OP and Trump won't help OP.

Yes, OP is doing well in this economy. I know someone who is young, college educated, and cannot find a full-time job to save his life. His friends are in the same situation, many with loans to pay. OP actually is quite fortunate.

Wow you make a ton more money than my brother who cobbles together a living from several part-time jobs. He hates Trump and all his crooked billionaire cabinet members who are out to plunder America to enrich themselves more.

Hillary wanted to retrain for today’s economy and educate for the future economy—An economy of automation and artificial intelligence. Trump wants to bring jobs back. Jobs that are being done in China with an average annual salary of $11,000. Does that MAGA, I don’t think so but, good luck to you.
