I have a young child who is 8 that We’ve recently adopted. The child was recently hospitalized for their 4th major bout of mania. This one psychotic seeing and hearing things. After a week in a children’s psychiatric facility and another few weeks in outpatient. We were referred to a psychiatrist dr Anthony Chapman. I’m having a heck of a time getting the office staff to send us the intake pack. We’re now on 7 phone calls and 1.5 weeks. I submitted an intake packet with children’s but their wait is 2-3 mos until first available.
Anyone have good recommendations for pediatric psychiatrist that has experience with bipolar, major ptsd, and attachment disorder? And can potentially see us before February? |
| Where do you live? |
| Have you tried the Inova Behavioral Health Outpatient Centers? |

Hard to find a child psychiatrist with reasonable wait times, but if you call around, you might get lucky. Naomi Schnittman at the Woodmont Psychiatric Group says she specializes in mood disorders and PTSD. Others you can try are Adair Parr and Nora Galil. I found Galil difficult to work with, but she is well regarded and could take us quickly.
Good luck. Bless you for adopting a special needs child. |

The wait times are insane. We have been working with Dr. Eva Theodosiadis in McLean for over 3 years. She is very good and and knowledgeable.
|
| Our pediatrician recommended Dr. Nene in Arlington for our DDs anxiety. We were able to make an appointment within a week or so of calling. |
| Children’s is actually more than 2-3 months. We’re still waiting to get an appointment after 3 months. We just kept calling around and finally found an appointment with only a 6’week wait. Whatever you decide put your name into Children’s in case your first choice doesn’t work out. You can always cancel if you don’t need the appointment. |

I feel your pain, op.
Get on waitlists every where you can including KKI & Children's. Keep calling places as a reminder every few weeks. |
| Try Dr. Susan Rich in Potomac. I know she has worked with children with this profile. 301-251-1190. |
| Mark Sakran sees patients in Mclean and Rockville. He doesn't take insurance but will try and get you in ASAP if you are in a crisis. |
| I think its crap that a child can be released from psychiatric hospitalization without a clear treatment/follow up plan with a designated psychiatrist. This would never happen with a physical health issue. |
I totally agree. This should be unacceptable for numerous reasons. I've this type of story for several parents and it's sad to think of the overall state of our mental health system. |

Have you looked at the services offered by Adventist Health Care at the Lourie Center? Might be a good place to look as they have hospital connections and are not just a private practice.

op here. I fully agree!!!! They should have a severity escalation process like every one else. Cancer doctors see stage 4 prior to stage 1. |
Thanks I’ll check it out. I’m scheduled for an intake meeting with Johns Hopkins tomorrow. |
