| Dr. Thomas Applin in Chevy Chase, MD. God bless you for adopting this child. Best wishes to you and your family. |
Hopkins is very good. Hope they can help your child find some relief. |

You can also call over to Medstar Georgetown:

Thank you. |

OP here. Just spoke with Johns Hopkins. They will not see us unless we go to therapy there. I want to scream. I can go to Baltimore once or twice a month but not weekly.
Medstar doesn’t have a psychiatrist that sees this age group. |
So sorry, OP. Start calling the private docs people have mentioned and explain the seriousness of the situation. Some don't have staff, so just leave a message. I think someone would be willong to squeeze you in. You can also try calling the discharge hospital and ask for more referrals. |
| Try the outpatient department at the Kingsbury Center |
I’m sorry OP. I’m in your same situation. The lack of resources for kids is abysmal. |
|
So sorry, OP.
I suggest trying JSSA (www.JSSA.org) but I am not sure if they would also have a long wait list. I would think they should be able to refer you to someone for urgent care, however. They have locations in Fairfax (near Merrifield) and in Rockville. I believe they also require therapy. |

check on zocdoc.com
I'm sure most of these doctors are cash only (because they frustratingly all are in this field) but a few reputable ones have appointments this week. https://www.zocdoc.com/search?insurance_carrier=-1&day_filter=anyday&gender=-1&language=-1&offset=0&insurance_plan=-1&reason_visit=1228&after_5pm=false&before_10am=false&sees_children=false&sort_type=default&dr_specialty=250&ip=100.15.211.8&address=Washington%2C%20DC%2020016%2C%20United%20States When doctors have a last minute cancellation they'll often put the slot on zocdoc. |
We had a terrible experience with Dr. Sakran. He has openings because he is not good. |

Try Child and Family Counseling in Fairfax. They are frequently rec'd here and they have several psychiatrists on staff.

I am so sorry you are dealing with this.
Not sure where you live (assuming MD since you tried Johns Hopkins) http://www.fs-inc.org/services/programs/care-and-connections-for-families mentions medication management http://dccrcc.com/mental-health--academic-support-services.html the family stabilization program doesn't mention meds but it might be worth trying. http://www.mdcoalition.org/get-help-now is a support group for people in your situation. Also, was your son adopted through foster care? If so, the state or county might be able to help, either by getting you a referral or upping his subsidy so you can pay out of pocket. I will also say that while I didn't love Kaiser's pediatric mental health services, they were able to get our daughter in quickly for therapy and med management when she was in crisis. |
Thank you thank you!!!! I not only found a highly reviewed child psychiatrist, but one who takes my insurance!!! |
A unicorn! Good luck! |
