13 yr boy fashion when out with girl/boy group

What do boys wear out to say the movies or something like that with boys and girls. My son says he wants something other than sports clothes - thinking this is because girls are around. What’s in these days? I need fashion help! Thanks!

This. If we are lucky it is clean. If we are very lucky he is wearing deodorant. But sometime we rrreeeotlucy or very lucky. *sigh.

Seems like if your kid is old enough to be interested in girls, he is old enough to tell you what he wants to wear.

Maybe a varsity/bomber any kind of nice jacket with a t shirt/polo and jeans. Girls appreciate that.

Mine likes the preppy vineyard vines look

My 13/14 year old's crowd is pretty immature, so while there are both genders in the group (and a few who may be unsure yet), they aren't there to impress each other yet, so they just wear whatever they wear to school.

But if your boy wants "something other than sports clothes," he probably has an idea of what he means because he's trying to imitate someone. If he can't describe it, take him to the mall and shop around. First time my DS went into teen clothing stores, he was shocked.

Take him to a store like Hollister I think that would be easier for him to shop than a department store.

I'm going through this too with a 9th grader who is now in private school and finding when outside of uniform, everyone isn't dressed head to toe in athletic clothes. We're going to head to Columbia Mall on the next free weekend to shop around and see what he likes. I have seen Vineyard Vines mentioned, which I think is carried in Nordstrom.

Jeans/cords/khakis and t shirt/polo/button down/sweater and Vans/Converse/loafers/anything other than running/hiking shoes. Just buy him normal clothes - I don't think a teen who is asking his parents for help in this area (and therefore likely doesn't have a specific look he's going for) needs anything too exotic.

Also what on Earth are "athletic clothes"? Is that like the male equivalent of running around in Lululemon? Do people really dress that way when they're not playing sports?

Vineyard Vines is super expensive.

Athletic clothes are adidas/Nike/under armor sweats, shorts, hoodies, Ts. Not lulu lemon come on!

My 12 year old DD asked me for a vineyard vines long sleeve shirt. We also bought her a pair of jeans. She recently asked to buy another vineyard vines long sleeve. I realize you have a boy, but thought this might be helpful. The clothes are comfy, but a step up from her leggings and t-shirt wear around the house.

My DD wears a school uniform, so I didn't mind shelling out $50 per shirt in vineyard vines. That will be her "going out" weekend wear for the Fall and Winter!

I said "male equivalent" - i.e. for people who prioritize comfort over appearance. Do people seriously wear sweats out of the house when not exercising? I'm 34, not 94, and no one with whom I socialized growing up did this. It sounds unattractive and sloppy.
