Hi all, my apologies for another stroller post, I know there are lots, but I couldn't find what I was looking for.
FTM here. I live in a typical NW rowhome with 2 "flights" of stairs. The Cruz appeals to me because I'll be hauling the stroller up and down the steps but I'll also have about a 1 mile walk to daycare (and 1 mile back) on bumpy sidewalks so I'm looking for a smooth ride with the most durability. I went and tried them both and they seemed the same to me? Of course the Vista was a little larger and def heavier but never having pushed or carried a stroller before, I don't know if I was missing something? Does anyone have any experience with the Cruz and long city walks over time? We have a normal-sized sedan trunk but have considered upgrading to a crossover type SUV. Not married to the Uppababy but my girlfriends love their Vistas so I thought I'd start there. I know I don't like the tip factor on the City Mini because I'm forgetful and I'd probably try and put my bag on the handles at some point. Thanks in advance! |

I chose the Cruz because of the stairs. I live in NYC and walk/subway everywhere. As many subways don't have elevators, I went with the version I could carry up/down stairs (alone) with a kid inside. There is NO WAY I could lug a Vista up/down stairs like that. I also found the Vista to be too wide for my tastes (and cramming around crowding sidewalks).
Re: the wheels, the Vista has bigger wheels, so a smoother ride over sidewalks, but it isn't as though the Cruz wheels are trash - they're fine for my purposes, and I even pushed them through snow last year. Note: I did need to replace my wheels after 1.25/1.5 years as the tread started coming off. |
| I live in a city that seems to lack handicapped ramps and have a vista I lug around. I can do it but it's heavy, the key imo is backing up the steps but it is no joke to haul around.i would not want to deal with two flights of stairs in and out with it |
It's really important that you specified that you have a typical NW rowhome. Otherwise how else would the plebs possibly understand what you mean?

| I live in NYC and love our Cruz. We're in a brownstone building and I have to get the stroller up about 6 steps ( but luckily not up to my 4th floor walk up). We're very very happy with the Cruz, walk at least 2 miles every day with it, and often 4+ miles. Haven't once wished I had a vista instead! |
Thanks for your unhelpful response. Because this site is "DC Urban Mom" and I've never really used it, I wasn't aware that people so who aren't in DC use the forum. I wanted to specify the structure of my house as I've seen rowhomes Capitol Hill/SW with no steps and the larger brownstone type homes throughout the city with far fewer steps. No need to be a b*tch, if you don't have an opinion on the strollers, keep it moving. Ugh. |
Yes! DC is accessible until it isn't, I totally forgot about those days when the metro elevators are out! Thank you! |
Thank you! That also convinces me to buy the newer model so I don't risk the wheels being discontinued! |
Perfect, thank you! |
| Another New Yorker here who has been very happy with the Cruz. |
| Do you have a car? I have a huge flight of stairs to my front door and store my stroller in the trunk. |
| Neither, I'd get a snap and go while the baby is little to keep in the car and get an Uppa Glux or lite for strolling around if you have to carry it up that many flights. |
Then, get a jogger, even a cheap one, for the more rugged trips. |
| We walk to daycare and have 6 steps up into our home. We have the newer Cruz with larger back wheels (don’t buy a used without!) and it is great for metro, stairs, bumpy sidewalks. |
| I love the Vista but it is a heavy, heavy beast. |
