I am asking because I always feel out of place at DD's events, school and her school sport. I just found out that most of the moms of 16, 17 year olds that are her friends are in the 55-60 age range and they think I am way too young to have a junior DD. I have an older child too. I am in my mid 40s. This is so awkward, I am told I look younger, but I thought that is just small talk. I am not imagining it either, I thought it is bcs I am an immigrant, and that might have something to do with it, but the age thing I just found out. I think I am an older mom, and they think I am a spring chicken. Is this the norm here? I don't really care to fit, but I am curious about the age thing.
That doesn't seem right. Are you in the DMV? I live in DC and i'm 47 and have a 17 and 12 year old. I'm almost always an "older" mom compared to my kids' friends parents. Not always, but more often than not.
I'm 55 and have a 13 year old, so yeah! (And also an 11 year old, if you can believe that!)
DH is 61 and I'm 53 and we have 16 and 18 year olds.

There are lots of parents in their mid 40s with teenagers around here. I would say that is the most common age. 30s would be more unusual.

I'm 45 and my kids are 20 and 16. My older kid does have friends with parents who are approaching 60. I don't exactly feel young and DD's teen years definitely aged me.

My DH will be 54 when DC is 13, so 60 when DC is 17. I will be 54. Dang.. we are old.
I'm in my 40s with three teens.
I’m 46 w twins who are about to turn 16. My kids’ friends’ parents span a wide age range ... most are mid-40s to 50ish.

I am 42 and have a several children ranging in age from 11-17. With my 17 year old, I definitely feel the "young mom."
With my 11 year old, many of the other parents are about my age, but a few are up to 10 years older. |
OP here. Thank you for replying. My dd just turned 16 too.I am in north MoCo. Some of the parents have older children, done with college and working, so it seems to be more of a desire for more kids. And some have kids from previous marriage, and now younger kids. They are all very lovely families, maybe it is just an accident that DD's friends and team mates have older parents? On another topic, they all seem to know everything and how to handle teen phase and drama better than me.
Well I am 58 with a junior in high school AND a 4th grader. Talk about feeling like the grandma.
DH is 57 and I am 55 -- we have a 16 yo and a 13 yo
My husband has both. Had is first kid at 18, his last at 45.
