^^me again ... my sibling is barely a year older than I am, and they are empty nesters. It is just how life worked out. |

I am 53 and my husband is 54. We have a 17 year old and a 7 year old still at home as well as 3 college students.
Most of the parents of the 7 year old's friends are in their 30's/40's while most of the parents of the 17 year old's friends are in their 40's/50's. I don't feel awkward either way but honestly I look pretty young and I color my hair. My husband definitely looks older so people probably think there is an age gap but we met in college and our birthdays are only months apart. Frankly, we don't get any attention about age but we do get attention because we are a biracial family with white parents, 3 black teens and bookend white kids. |

| 53 with a seventeen year old. I am a bit older than most of the nort,h arlington moms with one. A bit younger than those who have a few. |
| I will be in my mid-50s with teenagers. |
| OP here. thank you for all the replies. So, it is not that usual for this area after all? I actually think some older parents than me seem to have more energy and are really into lunches and dinners and sport events for their teens. I think maybe sometimes people don't actually really look at other people and might get the impression that I am younger, I have my dark hair natural, few grays, but unnoticeable. (and just on dcum I will admit that I had botox done last summer)Though, if they do think I am younger, I honestly don't feel like I am or look younger. Most of the days, I barely have enough energy to go to these sport events and dinners. But, since there are so many of these, it would be nice if I kind of had a few parents to gravitate to. They certainly are very involved but in a good way. They are all very nice and polite, but not chatty with me. BTW, I am not a grouchy, negative European type at all. I actually dislike those exact behaviors when I go back for a visit. But, anyway, this was more me putting my thoughts on "paper" here, so to say. |
| I'm 45 & DH is 46, we have a 6 & a 5 year old, so kids will still be teens when we're in our late 50s. |
|
We must live among older parents. DH is 55 with a 12 y. DS's BFF parents are 51 and 53, another set of parents are 49 and 47, and another set is 55 and 56.
DH and I were just talking about this. When our son was born he was 44y and was worried about being the oldest parents at school and not fitting in with other parents. This hasn't proven to be true in our neighborhood/area and we 'fit in' just fine. |
| I will be 38 when my oldest starts high school. I am the youngest Mom at my kids preschool . |
| I'm 55. My kids are 18 and 16. I've always felt like an older mom at events, even in the DC area. I do know a fair amount of moms my age or older, but I still feel the opposite of how you feel. |
