Infertility Support and Discussion
| Tomorrow I will take my pregnancy test after the dreaded 2ww. Part of me wants to let the nurses message go to voicemail since I don't want to get upset if the results are bad and I am at work. Of course that is easier said then done and I am not sure if I will have the restraint not to pick up. Do you guys pick up? |
|
i have always picked up. you could always have them leave a message, and then you & dh can listen together (provided that you are not together when you get the call and we never are), and find out the news together. i liked that idea, but haven't ever done it.
on the otherhand, i like to be sure that i talk to the nurse or doctor just in case i have any questions....then i don't have to play phone tag.... good luck & you're almost there! sweet dreams...don't stress too much (easier said than done). |

i always picked up and shook like a leaf while doing so.
Calls after IVF cycles (I did 3) are the worst. All the best to you tomorrow!!! |
| Always voicemail |
|
The problem with not picking up is, what if they don't leave a message? What if they say, "this is your doctors office, please give us a call about your test results." Then you have to call a particular nurse back, and what if you don't get her?
I say, pick it up. |

I thought with HIPPA regulations a nurse or doctor are not allowed to leave personal and specific medical information on a voicemail message.
Answer the phone. |
maybe, but i feel like there is always a form that you can sign stating that you will allow the nurse or doctor to leave detailed messages at a number that you specify. |
| you can have your RN email your results also. Mine offered to do that in lieu of a phone call. |
| Shady Grove has a box that you check when you fill out the form about how they should contact you that day that says something like "OK to leave a message." I also wrote on the form "please leave a message, we will not pick up." For my first IVF, I had them leave a message on our home answering machine and DH and I listened together after work. For me, I think that was soooo much better than finding out alone and at work. I really needed DH to hold me. If I had them leave me a VM on my cell, it would have been hard to not check it, so it was better for me to have them leave the message at home. THe second time, my DH happened to be off work and we were together when the call came in so we took it together. I wouldn't be too worried about getting questions answered. If the results are negative, there isn't too much to say other than "stop your meds." Both times I did a conference call with my RE during the 2WW to discuss the cycle, things we'd do differently next time - so there was no need to discuss that when getting the results. If the results are positive and you have questions about your second beta, you can always call the after-hours number. Good luck and hope you have better luck than I did!!!!!! |
| Take the call. Better to know sooner than later. Good luck and if you want, let us know how it turns out. Keeping my fingers crossed for you! |

I have always taken the call and I know right away the answer. My dr. office will let the nurse call and give you good news with a Positive pregnancy test, however if it's a negative the dr. himself calls, I guess to deliver the bad news personally. I know right away by the person who is calling what my results are. Not sure if you're practice does this.
|
| PP, what practice are you referring to? I'm trying to recall my previous phone calls (failed cycles) and remember the last one was the doctor. I can't remember if he called on all of them though. I'm in my 2WW and trying not to think too much about it. |
hmmmm very interesting. my only BFP call was from a nurse, and all the BFN were the doctor. i think you are on to something.... never thought about it that way.
|
| Wondering for the OP.... |
Not the previous poster but I can tell you that at Shady Grove the nurse will generally call with both positive and negative results (I had several of both). However, following a negative IVF cycle, my doctor called later in the day to share his thoughts but the nurse made the initial call with the beta results. |
