DD is currently in the 9th grade. What are the NYC equivalents to DC's private schools? Any other tips are welcome. Thx! |
Also, we'll apply to basically every private, if it's that hard to get a slot, and it sounds like it is |
Dalton
Good luck. |
Sidwell = Trinity
GDS = Horace Mann NCS & Holton = Chaplin/Brearley/ Spence St. Albans = Collegiate/Boarding schools (Collegiate is the only TT boys school that goes through 12th, all the others end in 8th and many boys go on to BS) Maret = Dalton |
Thanks for this. What are the Friends schools like? |
Horace Mann |
Where in NYC will you be? |
There are also several good schools in Brooklyn if you are inclined. St. Ann's Poly Prep Packer Berkeley Carroll Brooklyn Friends |
Manhattan, or we might just live in Hoboken if we can get a 3 bedroom for a cheaper price |
Thanks! We're considering anywhere she can get in, because we know admissions in NYC are wayyyyyy tougher than down here in dc |
Are you working with your current school for placement? That should be your 1st conversation. |
DD has been homeschooled for the previous year after she had a major problem last year with her previous school |
And i do realize this complicates things |
Wait. Your child has been homeschooled and you're going to RENT (as in not buy into a coop) in HOBOKEN and you're applying to the top private schools in Manhattan? Are you crazy? Why not just shoot for the Swiss boarding schools? |
NOt to mention the fact that commuting to almost any private from Hoboken is horrible and your poor kid will find it hard to have play dates. Heck, hard to make friends if you live in Hoboken! |
