If you are thinking of Hoboken, look into Avenues in Chelsea. It’s a newer school and may be easier to get into. Your DD could take the Path from Hoboken. |
Thank you! |
There is a documentary about this school! |
Way easier/cheaper option for a ninth grade girl: move to Jersey City and send her here: https://www.stdominicacad.com |
BFS and FSS don't release acceptance rates |
Hoboken has the Hudson school, but it's only 20k so it might be a different kind of place. |
We had friends in Secaucus who sent their kids to a really nice private in Montclair, NJ. There was bus service to and from the school.
https://www.mka.org Hudson County has an application high school, High Tech HS that's currently located in North Bergen but will move to a new facility that's currently being built in Secaucus near the train station. Bus service is offered. If you end up in Jersey City, your daughter can apply to attend their magnet high school, McNair HS. |
Thanks for the advice! NJ does have a good selection of privates. It's more likely we'll rent an apartment in downtown NYC (doubt the transfer will last longer than DD's HS tenure), but if Jersey proves easier for HS... |
You don't get it. No one pays to live in Manhattan and sends their kid to school in NJ unless it's lawrencville. Just like its unusual to send their kids to NYC privates from NJ. What's your obsession with living one place and sending your kids to another? |
This is like saying you'll live in Maryland and send your kids to privates in Virginia...or vice versa. |
I live a few blocks away from Poly Prep in Brooklyn and the school itself has its own private gated campus. The school is located next to the highway and has bus transportation making it easy to get to. |
What I meant to say was, if jersey was easier for HS/she couldn't get in anywhere in Nyc we'd live there and have her go to school there. |
I lived in Hoboken for many years and loved it. It was a lot of fun and there was a lot to do- if you go this route, check out Hudson, MKA (great rec from above), Oak Knoll, Kent Place, Newark Academy. You should also look at Summit and Montclair. |
No it's not. Most of the private school stock in this are is centered around the river (McLean, Bethesda). NYC area is much more spread out |
Who has "play dates" in the 9th grade?? LOL |
