Clear as mud. Investigators are not indicating that the obvious one, heat, is the cause of death. So there's indication of something else, instead.

If there is one known incontrovertible fact about these people I think it is that they were experienced hikers and outdoorsmen, and had spent a lot of time in very hot dry conditions previously

Semi serious question... don't investigators generally refrain from speculating? In the death valley article it seems like the general public and media is saying possible heat stroke and actual law enforcement is saying under investigation. Is the fact that the media is saying unexplained deaths here more about the media storyline and less a difference from a law enforcement perspective?

I’m fat and indoorsy-how long does it take athletic, experienced hikers to do a difficult 8 mile hike? It does seem awfully crazy to attempt that with a baby. I’m guessing at least 3 hours or so? Do babies actually want to chill out in a hiking backpack for that long?
