Barely half of Americans have a passport. |
1. A passport is not required. 2. FWIW, a passport is $130--not $160. I just renewed mine. Standard delivery took about 3 weeks. You can take your picture with your phone. And, guess what? You need a birth certificate the first time you get a passport. Again: YOU DO NOT NEED A PASSPORT TO VOTE UNDER THE SAVE ACT |
Actually, most people do not drive to vote. Most people live in cities and suburban areas, where there are neighborhood precincts within a few blocks of where the live. Now if you want to say people in rural areas have to drive to vote, that would be a true statement. But that is why many red states have mail in voting. Of course, the GOP wants to eliminate that. |
Yes, that’s why I said it. |
This is stupid. You don’t need to present a can of gas or an uber receipt to vote. It’s no wonder you people are embarrassingly contorting yourselves to solve a nonexistent problem. |
And if you don’t have a passport, you need a drivers license and birth certificate, both of which also cost money if you need to replace them. Still a poll tax. |
How will they know your birth certificate is actually your birth certificate? |
Meant to post that to the PP who suggested people who change their names can just use a passport. |
And the names on them have to match, and if they don't, then you need other documentation to explain why. The point being, the burden of proof should not be on the US citizen voter here -- it should be on the government to prove alleged wrong doing if they have evidence of it. This is a Constitutional right. |
All you need is birth certificate and marriage certificate (or, if you changed it for another reason, whatever documentation you have.) State will likely also require proof of residency. This will also resolve problem of people voting in more than one state. |
What documentation did you use to change your name on your drivers license? Your social security card? I've done both. Here is what you need: marriage license. This is not that hard. And, it is not a poll tax. |
And if you lost your marriage license, birth certificate, passport or whatever in a fire, you have to pay money for new ones. If you don’t, you can’t vote. It’s a poll tax. |
PP here. Yes. I know that. |
If you lose anything in a fire, you have to pay to replace it. Most people don't have fires. Keep your documents in a fireproof box. |
It doesn’t matter. People do lose things. They still have constitutional rights, one of which is the right to vote. You cannot charge them money to exercise that right by forcing them to pay for new documents. It is a poll tax. |
