You do understand that school choice is a state issue and not a national issue? The Federal Government doesn't have a say on school choice.

Not everybody loses. If the SB continues its poor treatment of UMC families, then we gain with school choice by sending our kids to an engaging environment without the threat of our kids being viewed as a resource to prop up poorer performing schools.

Three board members didn’t vote for the purchase: At-Large Representative Ilryong Moon, Rachna Sizemore Heizer (Braddock District) and Melanie Meren (Hunter Mill). I live in Hunter Mill district and I am not going to vote for Moon and Meren next time.

And then there’s the Great Falls group, which seems to oppose anything that remotely threatens their school boundary.

You realize that this school doesn't affect Great Falls in any way, right? And no need to BS about some kind of domino effect, etc. Let me be very clear: the GF community is happy that there's a feasible western high school to help alleviate crowding in that area. The schools aren't failing as loud as you proclaim they are. Can't wait for your DC to not get into any private school because they aren't special. It's going to be fun when you have to settle for an actual failing education.

For the last time: those posts are discussing the way in which this purchase was/will be FUNDED. No one is trying to take your school away, JFC. So is the thought that the western Fairfax schools would send their kids to the western high school magnet and the eastern Fairfax schools would continue at TJ?

Since TJ is prohibitively far from some parts of the county I’m glad to see the equitable access to programming from 8130 come into play with the magnet proposal.

This isn’t for a magnet. It’s a general high school that has been in the CIP for decades. There’s some really odd campaign on this thread to steal this opportunity for capacity relief and turn it into some sort of magnet vanity high school.
