Davidson for the win. It's a wonderful school in a moderate climate with outstanding resources. The undergrad experience is truly amazing. |
Actually more info needed as the student’s academic interests are relevant. Middlebury and W&M could also be “truly amazing” depending on student and field of study. |

Can someone explain the open drug policy? And for pp, has every Reedie you’ve known been able to support himself financially? |
I have a child Case- your child sounds like my child at Case. |
Can you say a little more about why UMD honors? Or can the poster who likes Case say a little more? I have a similar DD, also possible math major with a second science major and we are thinking about where to apply. Also not into drinking parties or sports. Looking for friends with intellectual curiosity. |
The Reedie I know has a well paying job in NYC |
absolutely NYU - UVA is a nice T25 option, but NYU for econ rivals Ivies, Duke, Vandy and Wash U |
I’d go with William and Mary, cheaper and the best size. I know kids at both the others who feel their school is too small. |
It’s definitely small. It has a second campus in Santa Fe, NM and many students, including me, spend 1 or 2 years on each campus to expand their circle a bit. That was a huge plus for me at least. If your son is interested, he should visit the campus and see if it’s a fit. Let me check but I believe they also offer one week seminar “camps” in the summer to study some of the Great Books in a group. That would be a great trial run. |
No question for me—Middlebury. The most beautiful campus I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot of them. |
Google the phrase “St. John’s College Summer Academy.” It’s easier than navigating the SJC website to find it. There are a variety of topics to choose from as well as dates. While the Summer Academy is a chance to spend a week on campus over the summer, there is a virtual option if that works better for you. Best of luck as you navigate this exciting time for your son and family. |
