UVA OOS
NYU Cas Full pay Major economics What would you chose? |
It's a great school for the right kid. By which I mean someone who likes learning for it's own sake and has the means to make that into a career. Great for sciences. |
Sounds like a very interesting young man or woman. |
PP, I agree, the Muhlenberg vibes were coming in despite the urban desire. Just seems like an ideal fit for all the interests. But if urban really is the most important, then Emerson can’t be beat. |
You’d need to visit Pomona for sure if you haven’t, if considering. I also had those two choices albeit a long time ago! Georgetown SFS was my by far top choice, Pomona second. Chose Georgetown. For that major I don’t see a better option. Obviously UVA for undergrad and then grad school at Georgetown would be the financially more advantageous option. Grad school (husband did MSFS) and undergrad however are not at all the same vibe. |
It’s an outstanding education. One of the best. Your kid will work incredibly hard and will be a deep thinker. Every Reedie I know is unbelievably smart and has been able to carve a really interesting path. |
Thank you! |
This is great to know! Do you have a sense of what career guidance is like at Reed? |
Elon |
I’m a little out over my skis on this one, but from the kids I know who’ve been there recently, including a great kid about to graduate (STEM major, got incredible research opportunities, really flourished in part bc Reed really helped him with a deep sense of purpose) it seems highly personalized, but maybe less “tracked.” But that’s consistent with the ethos of the place — the school seems all about helping individuals connect with their individual purpose and path. I bet you could reach out to the career center directly and ask to have a conversation. |
Georgetown. |
NYU hands down. |
do they want to do grad school? |
Thank you for your feedback on St. John's. DS is still not sure and this is helpful. I love that it's so different, but he needs to embrace the different. I know you had said 30 years, but socially will it be okay? It's so small. |
Yes they likely will do grad school. |
