What? We've closed once this year? Once last year? This is such an overdramatic response.

For snow. How about all the other closures? Last year, there were almost more weeks with 4 days of school than no. It's simply unacceptable to always do the bare minimum. We ought to strive for greatness. Not mediocrity.

Last year there were 180 days of school. How many more would you want?

Given how unprepared students are, a lot more.

Take a look at your own child. Are they learning? If not..it’s on you. Also what does unprepared even mean?

WHAT? That makes no sense whatsoever. Parents are not the educators. We can support education but if a kid is not learning, that's 100% on the school.

I think we found the problem. Parents are in fact in charge of their students’ education.

Getting them to bed earlier would help with that, too.

More days in school won’t fix a lot of the problems with education. Right now, a lot of the day is filler stuff. Kids really jsut need a few hours per day of actual instruction tailored to their level, and then time to play (not on screens). Public schools can’t provide that, especially not with such a wide range of skill levels.

+1 I appreciate the correct response as well. Hopefully, they will use the same measured approach when deciding what to do for this Friday.

I am sure the bus drivers who were in accidents with a bus full of kids, the kids that had to transfer buses in the middle of traffic, the neighborhoods where buses were unable to pick anyone up, and the poor bus driver who was hurt falling on black ice all agree that it was reasonable and measured.

I think that list isn’t accurate.

Yes, accidents happen. Plenty of people not affiliated with FCPS slipped on the snow/ice this past week. Surely you did not expect FCPS to cancel school today, right? Because there is still a ton of slippery ice out there. Or who knows... maybe you want FCPS to cancel school whenever there is any visible ice and snow?

This is beyond tired at this point. By your logic, anyone who doesn’t homeschool hates their kids. If they really loved their kids they’d want to be home together all the time.

Did it ever occur to you that some people hate the scrambling that occurs when last minute changes are made? We don’t all have jobs where we can just work from home or call out when school is delayed or closed. We all adapt, but that doesn’t make it not stressful. Not everyone has a grandparent or neighbor who can just watch our kids on short notice.

Being stressed is valid! But so are people arguing that it’s unsafe for busses full of kids to drive on icy roads.
