Will schools be open next week?

| Way too early to tell. It will be cold enough that anything that falls will be snow. But, the models are in disagreement on whether we will have any precipitation at all. FWIW, the one saying NO has a better track record on snow. |

If we get 8", it's possible to be closed for an entire week, it has happened before. I don't think the temperatures are forecast to be that cold on Thursday and Friday so it's unlikely but possible. With icing and refreezing, late starts are also possible throughout the week. |

| The forecasters have ALL said that it is not certain we will get anything at all. I hope we do, however, it is certainly too soon to be speculating. |

I am still a little skeptical but I see high of 33 on Thursday and 34 on Friday so it's not like it's going to melt immediately either day. And 50% chance of snow Friday. Hopefully OPM closes at least one day so DH is home and i'm not trying to entertain DS while working. |

The last time we got real snow, they were using un shoveled bus stops as an excuse to keep schools closed days later. Last weekend, they closed for rain. Never under estimate the desire of FCPS to keep kids out of school |

But then didn't they tacitly admit that the real reason for the closure was too many teachers out sick with COVID and whatnot? IIRC this was the first week back after winter break. |

Yes, I was a teacher that year (2020-2021), and it was made clear to the staff that the reason for the full week off was Covid. Last Saturday only affected sports and not school- so the poster above is clearly inaccurate. |

If there were really 8 inches of snow, they could absolutely keep in closed all week if temperatures remain freezing... unplowed roads and ice that refreezes. It seems unreasonable but it has happened before. In 2016 we also had about a week of closures. |
