Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
| This sort of behavior is not an isolated event and mcps knows it. There was a principal who was having an affair with a para who was employed in her same school. She had sex with him IN THE BUILDING in her office. Multiple staff members knew about it and building service caught them. When she left for another school she even took him with her and hired him there. She was not caught or reprimanded , in fact she has eventually has been promoted |
What’s a “para”? |
| Para educator |
| I think the county moved JB to paint branch because they thought that would appease the Farquhar teachers who had been harassed, that he at least wouldn’t be their problem. But their error then was in underestimating how infuriating it was to them see their bully get promoted. MCPS has gotten lucky in the past because traumatized people often just want to move on, especially if they have better options. Or more scary, they don’t want to be retaliated against. With this in the press, along with a bit of empowerment and validation for these teachers, and the public acknowledgement that what happened to them was wrong, I suspect there’s that this will lead to a fresh round of disclosures. The more they try to obscure information, the more infuriated people will be, and the more they’ll share. There’s comfort in numbers. See the #metoo movement. |
In some school systems, you are automatically fired for this kind of behavior. I had a principal have an affair with a para in a school system in VA in the early 2000’s and they were both immediately placed on leave. Nobody knew about the affair at school, but the husband knew and punched the principal when he saw him at a local bank! |
This. Central office liked him, and probably thought moving him as a win-win situation for everyone. Had they put him in central office, fms staff may have just moved on and avoided him. But promoting him, and putting him in a school that neighbors his previous cluster, was just too much. Now that victims feel safer speaking out, hopefully more will. |
| This happens all the time in mcps. They just move principals around. See the story above about the female principal sleeping with her male subordinate. I can think of another story off the top of my head of a middle school administrator in Gaithersburg, who was also having an affair with his secretary , and they moved him to be an assistant principal. The stories are endless |
Give specific examples and name names. Just making vague accusations with 0 evidence is irresponsible and wrong. |
So that Jeffy can delete them all and lock the thread? |
Exactly- not getting this thread shut down . Anyone in mcps who’s been around for a while in the up county area will know exactly which two admins are referred to in both stories above |
1. Any investigative outcome will simply recommend “more training” for staff. 2. Information will be obscured for the sake of the privacy of those involved. 3. The #metoo movement is regrettably over. 4. He will not be fired. |
You can report both situations anonymously using Safe Schools. We know MCPS didn’t care about these in the past, but McKnight specifically ask people to share complaints using Safe Schools. So whether it’s this “independent” investigation or research for a lawsuit, it will go on record. https://schoolsafety.maryland.gov/Pages/Tipline.aspx Just be aware there is a 4,000 character limit for the online form. |
Wow. Only the best people... |
Who gets the info when reported to safe schools because the article says it was used to report and nothing happened? |
Oh yeah! She’s a top person with McKnight now |
