Why does no one acknowledge how overworked teachers are?

They did teach. Their employers set the conditions of their employment, not you. Enjoy staying ignorant.

Most did not teach and did not oppose the teaching bans.

The profession is dead.

good parenting seems to be dead too.

Difference is, we don't pay parents $100k+ plus lifelong pensions for being good parents, do we?

Well at least you are admitting that parents don't parent thats a start.

Right? We should just take all those kids away from their parents. Put them in warehouses or something. Send them to work. Obviously they can't be educated, even by wonderful hardworking teachers.

Hmmm....odd take maybe parents could just start parenting again. That would be a good place to start.

But as we see on this board and from all of the teacher comments, parents aren't parenting. So your solution is just to shame them anonymously on an internet message board? You think that will accomplish anything? Get a spine.

Ahh ok and as we see on this site people come here to shame and blame teachers for everything. I bet all your big talk stays anonymous on DCMUM-am I right.

Look I am not the one with the complaints with parents -- you are. Do something about it aside from complaining anonymously. Heck, provide a suggestion as to how to make parents better, aside from just saying "parents should be better". What's your solution?

Well let's start here....spend time with your kids. Let them know you care. Love your kids. Teach them boundaries. STOP blaming everything on schools take ownership follow through. Thats a good place to start. Oh and it would be great if you could all cut down the screen time and get the kids outside like kids are supposed to do. Not the poster you are taking to but as a teacher here are some suggestions. I can't solve your problem sorry. Take a class.

Yeah but how do you confirm that parents do this, and what happens to them if they don't?

You aren't going to get solutions to your problems by telling parents on anonymous message boards to "take your kids outside". What's your suggestion for an intervention that can actually be implemented?

Teachers are talking about a widespread problem with parents. An individual solution such as you suggest won't solve the problem. (It's also cute that you've made it be about the individual poster, versus the wider problem. That individual poster becoming a perfect parent won't solve teachers' problems with parents.)

I hate to bash parents, but it seems a lot of parents have communication issues in the family.

My latest parent problem:

I teach in a specialized program. Parent is unhappy that kid says hates the program. (Kid would rather be the smartest kid in a room full of idiots rather than have a real challenge. I am not judging. That is just what the kid wants right now. I consider it more of a self esteem issue than an academic issue.) Parent doesn't want kid to leave program even though kid says will intentionally fail classes if forced to continue. Parent wants to meeting with me and other school personnel to convince kid to like program and stay.

Sounds like a true nightmare.

But you aren't addressing the point: What's your solution to the widescale issue noted by teachers about parents not doing a good job?

If you think teaching is easy be a sub for one day in public American schools and you will be eaten alive as kids treat you like Jackie Robinson on his first game ever in MLB throwing trash and cussing you out as you lose your voice trying to talk over them. Then your principal comes in and berates you for being terrible at your job and being stupid for not being able to control students. It's horrible horrible horrible. The helplessness and zero life control give teachers pstd.

It's weird that we are ordered to fill out our paperwork in incorrectly no matter how many hours overtime we work. On the other hand some security guards get salary and fill out overtime such as the case that made the news where the security guard made over 150k + by not abiding by the rules teachers are forced to.

My job has meetings in the middle of the night occasionally. I survived.

Given the choice, I’ll take middle-of-the-night meetings any day over teaching. You also mention they happen “occasionally,” whereas the stress/panic of teaching happens all day, every day.

It is a systemic, nation-wide problem. Teachers are undervalued, underpaid, and get grief from parents their administration, and nowadays, their students. Until the profession is treated as such (with commensurate pay and some autonomy with less testing), things won't change
Anonymous
The union needs to grow a pair of balls and stop the harassment and assault if teachers by admin, parents, and kids. People are getting hurt for fish sakes. We need to start firing people and I don't mean teachers
