Maybe they can't get a fillibuster proof majority to make abortion federally legal, but here are some things they can do off the top of my head:
- Put a free condom dispenser in every post office in the land
- Provide birth control pills and Plan B pills for free at every hospital or urgent care center that accepts medicaire/medicaid payments.
- If appropriate (I'll defer to doctors on this one), make bcp and Plan B over the counter meds.
- Make the child tax credit qualifying date be nine months before a child's date of birth. (After all, the child in the womb is a child)
- Make every pregnant woman eligible for SSI disability, in addition to any income they may have
- When every 18 year old boy registers for the draft, make them aslo sign a form saying that they understand that they are responsible for 50% of the costs of a child from the moment of conception, to include any obstetrics care.

The DNA of every male in this country should be on file. This would be no more draconian than what they are doing to women. Also, this way all rapists would be identified immediately.

I'm Catholic. I guess I 'should be' happy about this. Could you see yourself getting an abortion if you were raped? or how about your niece after she's raped by an uncle or cousin? That's the situation that is being made for women in states like Florida.

Let go of the Catholic guilt, you aren't a bad Catholic b/c you believe women should make choices for themselves. That makes you a empathetic human.

For one thing, Christianity used to allow abortion.

I also think of the damage that the Catholic obsession with “life” - at the expense of the women who had to grow, nurture and care for those lives - has done. My own great grandmother died after her 15th child was born, from complications from the gestational diabetes she’d probably had during the last six pregnancies she carried. She wasn’t able to tell my lout of a great grandfather to go m-st-rb-te instead of getting her pregnant again. How many times did that happen across the country and around the world? How many women’s lives, how many children’s lives and families would have been better off limiting their families to two or three or four kids instead of 10-18?

And where was the concern for life in the Indian Schools run by the Catholic Church? Where was the concern for the life of the children abused by priests who were allowed to prey upon children for decades?

Release your guilt. That part of your faith is an abomination against God.

That happens by consent. When the consent is no longer there, then things change. This country has changed a lot since its founding. Those of us who didn't sleep through school, or through any stories from family members or friends, know this.

Consent has never truly been there to begin with.

And Republicans certainly DGAF about consent.

If they did, Kavanaugh would have been investigated instead seated.

Either SCOTUS is to be packed NOW or the President needs to get off his a$$ and move immediately (using the military if needed) to disband the current court because of its insurrection against the constitution and transition to theocracy. After a period of study it could be reconstituted. It’s a shame it has come to this.

They absolutely should be. The baby adoption bonanza they are counting on by banning abortion will not come to pass. We are a different people than we were in 1970- unwed motherhood is no stigma and child support laws and garnishment infrastructure are firmly in place. Medicaid will cover all the poor unwed mothers, at massive expense, and all the poor, female lead families are going to drain public resources. More kids on the CHIP programs, more kids in the public schools, more unwanted kids getting addicted and committing crimes, more families living in their cars where you can’t ignore them. And guess what - more minorities too. The resulting drain on resources will make it very appealing to states to ban individuals from reproducing past a certain number. With no right to privacy, there’s nothing stopping them from the will of the people. You wanted four kids? Tough, the state can’t afford it.

There’s not going to be any Happily Ever After for the conservatives. The wool is off America’s eyes. A few horribly mutilated bodies is all it’s going to take to get your religions permanently banished from government forever. Check out Ireland for your example.

How does the leaker change anything?

If public response to the leak makes the GOP worry it will change the outcome of the mid-terms and potentially 2024, they/FedSoc will put tremendous pressure on the right wing justices to pare back the scope of the ruling and just uphold the Mississippi law without fully overturning Roe.

Roberts is already with the minority on this decision or it never would have been assigned to Alito. All we need is one more justice to get cold feet about going this far.

I’m sorry but this is a delusional stance. I saw this sort of thing written after the 2020 elections too, and now the GOP is poised to take back the house and senate. This court will be at this balance for years to come, doing everything the GOP lawmakers told its voters it would. I think we will look back at Biden’s win as a brief pause from our descent as a country.

For years, Republicans have been far better at gerrymandering at the state level and at getting constitutional amendments with neutral boundaries passed in states they have trouble winning. Democrats are just terrible and bare knuckle politics.

this may have been true when it was assumed Roe was settled law so you could "safely" vote for a R or just not vote without worrying about abortion access. I think this decision will turn a lot of women into single issuer voters and galvanize people that were not politically active before then.
