| My hair is seriously damaged from years of coloring...I'm contemplating going gray. Anyone else doing this? I so rarely see people my age (late 30's) with gray hair. |
| you can try henna... it's a vegetable and you can get it in any shade if your hair is brown or darker |
| My mom had a cropped do that was very gray at age 35. I see pictures, and she looked young, and hip. Mind you, I'm 30 and also going gray, but with my mad curly hair can't imagine it looking hip, but rather like a mad witch. So, I guess it would depend on your haircut, style, etc. |
| also if it's lighter you can try applying a tea made of onion leaves, it gives the hair a reddish/copper colour. |

OP here...my mom is gray and also has a nice, cropped haircut. And I too have the mad curly hair, which is why I haven't let myself go gray yet. Sigh. Does Henna work well? I remember doing it in college. |
| I would love to go gray but I fear being an older worker looking for a job and looking....well...old. But once I retire, watch out! |

I just went through a long spell of not coloring because of pregnancy. I have really short hair so it went almost completely gray really quickly. I am 37 and kind of liked the idea of a quirky gray do, so at the beginning I was fine with it. Well...
I am not vain, but it was really depressing. Once I finally colored it and highlighted it, I felt like a million bucks. It made me look really old, not hip. Everyone would joke about it and it just made me miserable. So there you have it. It turns out I am vain and love my colorist! |
| Personally, I wouldn't. You really can't help but look older with gray hair. If its damaging your hair that much, you may want to try another salon and different color/products. Are you changing your natural color more than two shades? Have you tried going a little darker to see if that would help? |
Totally agree. Late 30s is a bit early (in my opinion) to go gray. I think that you might regret it later. There has to be a better place for you to go that can help you reverse the damage done. Try Elizabeth Arden, I get my hair done at the place in Tysons, and they are great. Expensive, but to me this is worth the money. |
| Does the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty cover hair color? |
| henna does work for me =] |

In my Middle-Eastern family, the prevailing wisdom has been that henna doesn't cover gray. On the other hand, since the older generations in my family all stopped henna-ing at that point, I don't have any basis for describing what actually happens when grays are henna-ed.

the gray is not totally covered so we get that highlighted look to the gray hair. |
