| Subject says it all - I am wondering about the normal cost in Northern VA? Our deductible for out of network services is so high that insurance will not kick in at all. Thanks! |

It really depends on your concerns and how extensive the testing will need to be to try and address them.
Why are you seeking an evaluation? Learning disability concerns? Autism? ADHD? |
| For a learning disability and ADHD about $3-4,000. |
|
We went when our kid was 6 b/c there was a long history already for ST and OT. The cost was $3k and half was covered by health insurance. The findings were various LDs.
Try KKI or Children's if you're looking for coverage. |
Nope. You don't get a price cut based on what you're looking for. If you're planning on doing the ADOS, get someone who is experienced, but it will be negligible in terms of over all cost. |
| This is helpful for me too. Thanks! |
That's not what the PP is saying. There are multiple levels of testing. You determine what kind of testing to get based on your concerns. On another thread, an OP was looking strictly looking to get an ADHD diagnosis. That's cheap as a primary care physician can do it based on symptoms. If you suspect learning disabilities, you'll want more comprehensive testing that is generally sufficient for run-of-the-mill LDs and only cost about $1500. If you have more complex set of LDs and need to tease out sub-components of memory and processing, that's going be in the $3,000-5,000 range. Most kids don't 'need' the more expensive testing but parents will get it because it provides so much more information. |
| $3300 in Reston, OP. |
Thanks PP for clarifying my post. As an example, my child's last neuropsych cost $3600. We had concerns with ADHD and anxiety, and a history of a speech and language disorder. Our psychologist broke the invoice into parts so we could submit to our insurance company for reimbursement. The anxiety portion 'cost' about $700, and had that not been an area of concern the testing and consultations would have been shorter, and somewhat less expensive. |
A primary physician can but really isn't qualified. Contributes to the misuse of drugs. Yes, you do need comprehensive testing b/c ADHD is often co-morbid with other LDs. Also some things look like ADHD from a cursory "evaluation" that aren't. People end up medicating for a problem their kid doesn't have. |
No one is saying comprehensive testing should not be done. If the school is already doing an evaluation, it behooves a parent to see if their child meets the criteria for ADHD. School will not diagnose ADHD. |
| $3500 in Rockville |
| A wasted $3000. |
| Just had it done in Chantilly and it was $2300. |
| Spoiler alert - if you give them $3k, you will get a diagnosis. |
