Started crossfit about a week ago.
A lot more than lifting. They focus on technique. I have lifted weights all of my life, but my technique has not been the best. In one week my technique has improved 75% and I can feel it. Great work out and I would strongly recommend it to all--at least go to one session to see what it is all about. |
| I love it too. Been doing it for 4 years and have maintained my weight at 130lbs at 5'7. I am 46 years old. I have a 6 pack, no cellulite and look the best I ever have. More importantly, it really helped with bad anxiety issues I have had all my life. I don't have them anymore - which is amazing really. The other thing is that it is fun - it is social and competitive. There aren't many exercise programs that are like that for people aged 40 plus. |

45 and do it.
I didn't realize it was such a group thing. Some hottie females too! |
Don't be gross. |

Every single person I've known who has done it (more than 5 people I'm very close with) has gotten injured doing Crossfit. All at different boxes. And every single one of them claimed their box/coach "focused on form and safety."
Good luck. Take it easy. Crossfit keeps orthopedic surgeons in business. |
| I have been doing crossfit for almost a year and it is the best thing that has happened to me. I hate gym culture but I love my crossfit cohort. |
Every single person I've ever known who has played a sport into and beyond high school has gotten injured as well. Why people are so adamant about pointing out CrossFit injuries is beyond me. It's the best work out my husband and I have ever found. Glad you're enjoying it, OP! |
+1 every runner I know has had an injury at some point or other. Guess we should all just sit on our couches for fear of injury. FWIW I also pulled a muscle in my neck getting out of bed one morning....injuries happen. |
| My orthopedist said he loves crossfit. "It's good for business" |
so aren't all athletes... I have friends who are big into triathlons. They have their orthopedists and physical therapists on speed dial. |
Total sidenote-- a recent study linked some forms of anxiety to the microbiom of the gut. I wonder if exercise changed your gut composition? |
This! Aging is a bitch. If you're active you will have injuries but if you're a lazy couch potato you'll have different health problems. But problems nonetheless! DH does crossfit and I cycle/spin. He had tennis elbow and I have hip flexor issues. |
|
Q: How do you know if someone does crossfit?
A: Don't worry, they'll tell you! In a year or two this fad will pass and there'll be some hot new thing. |

I loved Crossfit and was in great shape when doing it. But I had a reduced rate through a friend. I can't justify the full price otherwise.
I also didn't like the "hard core" culture with Crossfit. That said, if I could find a place that was reasonably priced, I'd probably do it again and just ignore the meathead types. |
| I would never describe Crossfit as “focusing on technique”, it's more about quantity over quality. Frankly I think it's of the easiest places for beginners to injure themselves because for the most part technique is thrown out the window. If you have a solid foundation prior to starting I can see it being beneficial. |
