The title says it all. Online it would appear lots of people have monetized blogs and instagram. Just wondering if anyone knows someone personally who is doing this..what they write about (ie fashion etc), and if you know what they earn.
If so, please link to their sites. Just a major curiosity. |
| I know someone who has a food blog. She makes money but does it because she likes cooking and writing and travelling and writing about food and travel. And yes, she makes money. She bought new pots and pans one year. A really expensive hand made (bespoke) chef's knife another year. |
| i know someone who gets free baby gear to blog about. no money though |
| During the dawn of blogs with ads, I had a personal blog that cleared me about $35 / month. All of that being witty and thinking up new topics to keep people entertained eventually caught up with me and I gave it up. I had about 1000 hits per day. |
| If the blog leads to a book deal...then, yes. |
I've never read the books of any blogs I follow, but results seem mixed. I've seen people comment quite negatively on books from bloggers if the content was a regurgitation of existing free blog content, or in other cases, where the book seemed hastily or poorly written. But I guess if people have already bought the book, they may have already made the money so it won't matter! |

We know someone who started as an Instagram fashion blogger/model who is clearing $350K+ per year. She's recently pregnant and has shifted to pregnancy fashions, along with general health/wellness product influencing.
I imagine she will shift more toward mommy/kids fashion and influencing as the kids grow. She's pretty savvy and I imagine she will be able to pivot. Her husband takes all her IG photos and is building up his IG profile. |
| PS - the future is Mommy Snapchat and IG influencers. Blogs are dying with the newest generation of moms. |
Yes, I could get lost in these pages on instagram. Just wonder how people do it. My house never looks like that. My kids won't wear wear the stuff those moms put their kids in. I mean, I've seen a lot of fun and interesting ones that look like my real life (messy house, mismatched clothes on the kids), but the ones that really suck me in are the ones that look nothing like my real life- all simple and farm-y and everything is in neutral shades

| I know the author of martinis or diaper genies (now defunct). She is a prime example of why no one should put their entire family on the internet, GOMI pretty much destroyed her as a mother and wife for quite some time, which led to her ending her blog. |
|
That's so sad. I know a local blogger (not sure she was making any money off the blog- more just narrative) who got destroyed on GOMI. How awful that someone makes a living tearing other people down. |
| I read a few decorating blogs and often wonder the same thing. If they make money...they are spending it too. Tons of shopping to always show the latest room redo. |
| My husband runs a blog and makes enough to buy himself a beer every other month. It's just a hobby, not a side hustle. |
| Mom of my DD's BFF. Mommy blog. So fake compared to her real life. Hint: she buys clothes and housewares to stage the photos and then returns them. |
