DD is half Asian, half white. Is one better to declare for college applications?

We're fine going either way. My thought was go Asian as colleges like minorities, but now I read about some colleges cutting back on Asians.

We're not talking Ivy league. These would be middle-tier schools.

Asian for college. White for everything else in life.

Can you just not enter anything? That's our plan. DCs are also half asian/white.

+1

DS is half asian half white. I feel that when it's time for college applications he will not be a unique breed. Mixed babies are popping up everywhere.

That would be my preference, but I have the impression she may get a slight admission's preference at certain schools by declaring Asian.

Do not choose Asian as they are held to the highest standards. Can you choose mixed without providing further details or simply not answer?

Yes I can. I'm just trying to figure out what's optimal. Maybe I'm too clever by half.

Asian is better because white indicates the privilege of high IQ and good looks which is the double whammy.

Our children are half asian and half white as well with a very western last name. Given the bias against asians in the admissions we select white.

BTW, I would guess that would be very difficult with an ethnic last name?

Do not select Asian if you can help it. There are quotas for Asians and Asians need to have higher stats (tests and grades) to make it in. You have a larger group competing for a smaller set of spaces.

Essentially of all applicants with certain test scores, Asians had the lowest acceptance rate. In fact they are penalized. Asians need higher test scores and grades to get into schools than any other ethnic demographic:

This article is about acceptance to Medical School, but the issue affects undergraduate as well. Basically, for the same MCAT scores, Asians are admitted into medical schools at significantly lower rates than other ethnic demographics.

Just pick African American.

The entire human race originated in Africa and we are American. Seems logical to me.

I wish there were a box that said "I refuse to give in to racists that would ask this question."

Why don't you be honest and select mixed, or all that that apply/other? Don't play some kind of game.
