DH and I always do - especially if we're travelling for vacation. I try to scope out the gym situation before-hand to get an idea of what I should take - lifting stuff or just running shoes if their weight room looks like crap. I feel like I can indulge in food & drinks if I keep my training schedule on track.
DH travels for work and at least tries to get cardio in. What about you? |
| Typically I run 6 days a week, year round, no matter what the weather. I take a rest week in the summer and one in the winter. So I usually plan for my summer vacation foto be my rest week with no running. |
| Week* don't know where "foto" came from |
| sometimes. Really depends on where we are going and what we are doing. When we go to the beach I will run a few mornings. On trips where we will be doing a ton of walking I don't go out of may way to do much else. |
| Bodybuilder here who works out regularly 2/3x a week and when I go on vacation I try not to workout and will treat it as a rest period. So travel or sickness is my rest periods. But if it's 7 days or more I try to slip in a quick workout lifting or if we're at the beach do some running or sprinting on the sand which is a great leg workout. I have young children so i don't get much downtime while on vacation nor do I have any when I'm at home for that matter but I make the time. |
Do your bodybuilder friends work out when they travel? I had always assumed people at that level always do . . . I know some of them that travel with their chicken and broccoli, etc. |
| I do not travel for work. I don't usually work out on vacation but we tend to have pretty active vacations where I am doing way more walking and physical activity than I do at home. I eat much more freely and drink a lot on vacation and do not usually gain any weight. |
| Yes. |

It depends. I don't travel a lot, so it's not a big deal for me to take a break.
If I'm going to the beach, I'll run in the morning. I actually will enjoy my beach time more if I have a good morning run. If I'm going on a non-beach vacation and can't do a morning run, then I'll make sure that I work in a LOT of walking so that at least I'm moving. I don't lift weights on vacation. I feel like it's better to get a break. I'm pretty consistent throughout the year, so vacation and sickness is really the only time I take a break. |
| Not usually. But if I were even slightly overweight, I would. |
|
I travel a lot for fun and work. I always try to get a workout in. I try to walk/hike a lot, and on top of that - I try to lift at the gym. Most hotel gyms suck though, so if there isn't much I can do or if there's no time, then I don't stress about it.
|
The single guys at my gym do bring supplements, I'm not sure about bringing actual food with them but the married guys w/ kids don't tend to, like myself. But what I try to do is work out before a meal so I can eat immediately after a workout. |
| I'm a female bodybuilder and I do work out on vacation. I take protein powder and other supplements, but not actual food. I would not go on vacation while prepping for a competition though. |
| I bring a jump rope and exercise band with me on vacation to use. |
| I always do. I'm a daily exerciser, and it's so much a part of my routine that I feel weird and sluggish if I don't work out. But I'm flexible. I usually run, but if I'm traveling someplace very hot, that might not be feasible. On one vacation, I mostly surfed and did yoga and only ran a few miles. On another vacation, I swam and snorkeled and walked a lot. Most hotel gyms are pretty weak, so I don't use them often, other than as a break from running in the middle of a week of running. |
