The best list was created when we reached a consensus (god, I don’t know how that happened considering the barbarism on this thread) on the “What are the top 10 universities in the USA” thread.
The thread covered virtually every argument you can make for and against a school. So here’s a link if you want to look at it before saying the same thing here: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/450/976040.page" target="_new" rel="nofollow"> https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/450/976040.page Undergraduate: Harvard Stanford MIT Yale Princeton Columbia Caltech Penn Chicago Duke Northwestern Dartmouth Brown Cornell JHU Berkeley Overall: Harvard Stanford MIT Yale Columbia Princeton Penn Chicago Berkeley Duke Northwestern |
| Harvard, Stanford, MIT. End of list. |
No. Just MIT. Once you include Harvard you have to put in the others that are so similar. What is the difference between Harvard and Princeton. Or Princeton and Yale. Or Yale and Harvard. or Harvard and Columbia. Etc. |
Not Columbia |
Columbia is a lot like the others. Just leave it at MIT and be done with it. |
Harvard is awfully pedestrian. Every time you meet a Harvard grad, it confirms everything you hear about the lousy admissions practices at that school. |
| Tufts |
Too close to Boston. Only one elite school per metro area. For Boston MIT has it wrapped up. |
| I love to answer Tufts to every question on here because people are so touchy about it in every way. |
I have no affiliation with Tufts, but if it were in any other city, it would defintely be considered elite. Being in the shadow of Harvard and MIT, geographically is a tough row. No, it isn't in the Ivy League, but academically and otherwise, it is an elite school. |
Tufts is just lame. Doesn't even warrant a strong response because absolutely everyone knows deep down that it's not and will never be elite. |
