Also because Kelley seems to always write women in a negative light. IMO.

I really disliked the addition of the affair, it almost ruined the series for me, but RW asked for it, it wasn't kelley. She didn't want to leave all the oscar bait to NK

Actually he wrote a beautiful women-coming-together-for-women story. Maybe you missed the ending.

Critics, especially female critics, are praising the series for its real and compelling portrayal of women. Reese and Nicole specifically said there weren't compelling female roles available. And they were happy to go out and get them. Those two, as co-produces, also got the writer and director on board. Kelley did an amazing job. I can't think of an Emmy category BLLs won't compete in.

Yeah, perhaps he writes them in a negative light in his other work, but I didn't see that at all here.

I saw it as them being written as people. Women cheat. It wasn't like Madeline was remorseless, so I don't really see the negativity.

That's why I liked the book so much. I'm a teacher in a very wealthy suburban area and totally identified the Madelines and Renatas in my world. Made me wonder (and worry) about the Celestes.

My parents came to an event at my kids elementary school today and my dad commented it was just like "big little lies".

I'm one who really disliked Ed'd beard but with all that happened in the final episode, it didn't register in my brain that he shaved. No wonder Madeline says he's the best guy ever. That, and his "Wonder of You" make Ed awesome.

I liked the show, a lot, but none of the women were likeable. And the changes made to Madelines character made her much less likes le than the book.

I found all of the women likeable, in their own way. They all definitely had their flaws, but I found myself wanting to be friends with each one.

Loved everything about this series. I see the whole beach ending as ode to girl and girlfriend power.

A pp upthread commented on the unbelievable fact that the trivia night singing parents had such great singing voices. Turns out Ed and Nathan were lip-syncing and professional singers were used. Bonnie/Zoe sang herself, because Kravitz.

Interesting about Ed - I thought he sounded horrible, and it turns out he was lip-syncing. Yuck, didn't like the voice at all.
