Fairfax Union Girls ECNL

Avoid Union 09, VRSC or NVA for that age group is a healthier option

We are just looking for low drama and good soccer.

Can you elaborate on the trainwreck comment in terms of Union please. We are from a club not affiliated with ECNL and are also looking at trying out at NVA and Union this coming spring and while we have been very impressed with NVA facilities, we don't know much about Union other than what we read here. Thank you

You just made everyones day. Union or NVA? This is assuming you have already determined she can't play for VDA '09s? Makes sense they are probaby the only elite team around here at the moment. NVA 09 would be my recommendation despite some coaching issues, its less of a trainwreck than whatever is happening at Union. The main parent clubs for each Loudoun (NVA) of late has been far more stable than McLean (Union) and Loudoun park is a far better facility than anything happening with Union's facilities. VA Revolution is worth looking at as their 09 team is better than the others but as a club very new and shiny. Some people like that, and their facility is unmatched.

Both seem about the same distance from where we will be living. My daughter is currently a 2009 and plays ECNL in the Pacific Northwest. Can anybody here give advice? Coaches, players on the team, club culture, etc. TYIA

Reach out and try out to all the teams to form your own opinion. Most of the post on these forums are crap and/or have hidden agendas.

Problem is in the name. They have had two fractured unions in less than 5 years. They need these unions to be able to keep their ECNL badge, but it's a result of poor management and parental influence. Which has led to fractured teams, with loads of potential but inconsistent results, leading to players leaving mid season from every team, every year. They will tell you how amazing their current class of 2007s are, and they are impressive, but after that this club has not and will not have the same outcomes. Not bashing just stating facts that numerous on here can back up. NVA for the record is not much better but they, Loudon at least could walk way from any of the other clubs in their alliance and keep their ECNL badge.

You can say this about the union boys but you can’t say this about the union girls. The strength of any club and team is based on the talent of the players and the quality of the coaching and leadership. Union is the same coaching/leadership that has been in the ecnl since its inception. The mergers have elevated the player pool. Union is much improved from 2009-2012. And to say that the 2007s are the last amazing class is just ignorant.
NVA was the top club last year because of the mergers and the coaching but they lost their top coach and have struggled since and Richmond has been much better this year because of the changes in coaching. Arlington is much improved because of coaching and nova ecnl consolidation.

VDA is probably top this year because they essentially merged with FCV this year. VDA really has only had one good team in their existence (2006) prior to this year and that was because they had a good young team merge with BRYC when the director came to VDA.

The many posts about union being a train wreck were probably just coaches wishing it would or talking about the boys side. Our family was concerned about the merger since it was a little last minute. But we are very happy we stayed.

The union girls did not need to do a merger to stay in the ecnl. Almost every team finished in the top half last year.

Three players left to go to the three different GA clubs as they wanted more playing time.

The merger forced by ENCL about the VA Union Boys. Nothing else. The girls were collateral damage.

There's nothing "healthy" about NVA.
