Alec Baldwin fatally shot someone on movie set with gun mishap

YET, we have virtually no regulation of guns on the streets we walk everyday.

So, yes, it would be great if people who work on movie sets were safe. But those of you arguing that responsible gun use requires rules and training....why don't we require that out in public, which has children and drunk people and angry people....

I am all for controlling how guns are used, but more concerned about schools and malls than movie sets.

Before you ask how this is relevant, it is all people who went to work and got shot to death.

“YET, we have virtually no regulation of guns on the streets we walk everyday.”

If you seriously believe there is “virtually no regulation” of firearms, whether generally or “on the streets we walk [sic] everyday,” you may be the most appallingly ignorant human being in creation.

Okay, so we get that you have consumed the NRA's kool aid. And you probably believe what you are saying.

Here are some FACTS:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/08/12/theres-no-magic-bullet-prevent-gun-violence-we-can-start-with-more-oversight/

https://vpc.org/regulating-the-gun-industry/regulate-htm/

https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/strictest-gun-laws-by-state
(Did you notice the first sentence of the second paragraph?)

https://www.cfr.org/backgrounder/us-gun-policy-global-comparisons

I am done debating someone who spouts opinions. Bye

So you’re “done” because you’re completely insecure in your ignorance? Because the opinion/advocacy pieces you cite to as “FACTS” might not hold water?

Let’s “consume” some actual facts. About DC. You know, where we walk the streets [sic] “everyday.”

DC has at least the following gun laws (laid out in the DC Code):

1. All firearms must be registered.
2. Unlawful to possess unregistered firearm.
3. Unlawful to possess ammunition without registered firearm.
4. Lengthy list of banned long guns by name and/or characteristics.
5. Specified list of handguns allowed -- no "Saturday Night Specials."
6. Unlawful to carry firearm openly.
7. Unlawful to carry pistol without a license.
8. Training with actual target exam required for license.
9. Places where licensed pistol can be carried highly restricted.
10. Ammunition carried with licensed pistol extremely limited.
11. No open or vehicular long gun carry.
12. No possession of firearms or ammunition by minors, prohibited persons (felons, drug users, violent mentally ill).
13. No private sale of firearms.
14. Prepurchase safety training.
15. Background check on all purchases.
16. Longstanding (at least the 1970's) limit to 10 round magazine capacity.
17. Negligent firearm use unlawful
18. Criminal firearm use unlawful.
19. Use of firearm in crime of violence, drug crime, etc., unlawful.

This is hardly “no regulation.” You genuinely have no idea what you are talking about. And you know it.

Of course he will. And he will have to settle for an undisclosed significant amount of money. It was an accident with a gun. The caution used should have been elevated and wasn’t. It wasn’t a freak accident with feathers from a pillow that caught in her throat. It was a gun, pointed at her and he pulled the trigger.

An article from a few days ago said it misfired as he pulled it out of the holster

Perhaps, but I believe it's been revealed in the last couple of days that it was a real bullet.

That's what's so odd -- how would a real bullet get in a gun on a movie set? Who is bringing bullets to the set with them, and putting them in guns that are going to be used in the movie?

I know he is describing this as a misfire, but based on the circumstances, I'll be surprised if that ends up being the case. I suspect that he did cock it and pull the trigger not realizing it was loaded. A lot, just soooo many things would have to be going on for the weapon to misfire right into someone else exactly at the right time.

A misfire is when you pull the trigger and the gun does not fire. He 100% pulled the trigger. A gun does not magically go off.

It was revealed today that crew members were shooting at empty cans (plinking) for fun during down time on set.

I believe the initial assumption was that there was debris in the gun that got discharged when the trigger was pulled. This seems to not have been the case.

First of all, firearms are anything but deregulated.

Secondly, each and every alleged interstate transfer of a firearm across state lines other than through a federally licensed firearms dealer already violates multiple federal and DC laws.

Thirdly, if the USA is “awash” in anything, it is illicit Chinese fentanyl, which is unlawful everywhere. How could that possible get into the country?

Yes, at first there was speculation that it might have been debris from an improperly cleaned gun. Now, the speculation is that it was a regular, live bullet in the gun, since live ammo was found mixed in with blanks on the premises.

There are accounts that AB was very careful with the prop weapons at all times during shooting. I cannot imagine what horror he must have felt immediately and afterward, feeling the gun fire in his hand and knowing that he killed a woman with it. It's just awful.

The producers will, but I don’t know why he’d bear any responsibility as an actor. And there’s a workers compensation question they’ll have to get around first.

He wasn't careful enough to make verify that the gun wasn't loaded, which is about the most basic thing that is expected of anyone handling a gun.

Because a reasonable person would verify that a gun is not loaded before pulling the trigger. That should take all of 5 seconds. Workers comp is probably the exclusive remedy which means no civil judgments, hopefully the local DA is unimpressed enough with Hollywood to at least charge everyone involved with something
