"We are heartbroken to announce that Jim Vance died this morning.
"For more than 45 years, Jim Vance was not only the soul of NBC4 but of the entire Washington area. His smooth voice, brilliant mind and unforgettable laugh leaves each of us with a tremendous void.

Wow, this is sad. Jim Vance has always been a symbol of local Washington to me. Such a great guy.

So sad. When I first moved to DC, I watched him every day. His voice reminds me of that happy, carefree time.

Oh wow. I'm going to go watch that clip of him and George Michael cracking up over the model with the wiggly legs. They were the best news team. I loved how Jim's earring got bigger over the years as he gave fewer effs.

Oh no! He will always be the voice of DC's local news to me. They just announced that he was undergoing treatment for cancer in May. Such a loss.

No he hasn't been on in months. He was battling cancer.

I feel heartbroken. Growing up here, Jim Vance feels like family. He will be missed.
