Life is long, we all contain multitudes. He had a problem that he conquered, and went on to contribute much to the community. Certainly, you would call such a person a class act. You might want to consider how stigmatizing addiction contributes to people not recovering, and being able to contribute to society. A little grace and respect for human dignity goes a long way. |
Believe me, nothing I say or do prevents an addict from recovering. Nothing. Nothing I say or do will cause someone to become an addict. Read what you wrote; it is a bit ridiculous. Then read what I wrote. I commended his ability to get his life back on track. |
| Agree he was a class act. Had the pleasure of meeting him a few times. Very sad to hear the news today. |
Yes, he did continue to anchor up until a few weeks ago. He semi-retired a year or two ago and he had been on less since January, but he did continue to host in between his treatments. "Vance had recently announced that he was battling cancer. He had manned the anchor desk this summer in between treatments, telling concerned viewers, “I have been coming into work with my partners here whenever I can, and I shall continue to do that. In fact, I will insist on doing that.” http://wtop.com/dc/2017/07/nbc-washington-anchor-jim-vance-dies-at-75/ |
You are a jackass, PP. Washington will miss Vance. We will not miss the likes of you. |

| Nbc4 news anchors and reporters were so sad today. |
You're right that it's common knowledge he was a recovering cocaine addict, and lots of us still think he was a class act, probably in no small part because of his recovery. |
No one is perfect. We all have demons and If I remember correctly George Michael was the one that helped him get cleaned. He was locked up in a room for like 30 days. |
| I grew up here and can't remember a time when Jim Vance wasn't on the news (except for recently, of course). This is so very sad to me. |
So once a person battles addiction, he or she can never again be considered a "class act", evendors aferr achieving & maintaining longterm recovery? Whatever class that person may demonstrate through out his or her life is completely & permanently negated by his or her addiction? |
^fixed it! |
| RIP, I miss watching him and I'm glad he got to see his portrait on the Bens Chili Bowl wall before he passed away. |
They just did a lovely piece about him on the morning news. He was clearly as beloved by his coworkers as he was by us. |
| NBC4 6 pm news did a lovely tribute and Doreen Gentzlernwas so tender and sweet talking about her partner of almost 30 years. I feel like an era essential "DC-ness" is gone with Vance's passion. We won't have another local anchor team like the two of them again either. |
