I hate how religious America is

Canada must be nice. In the states we're subjected to an absolute onslaught of religious - mostly Christian - influence. It affects how we treat gay people, how we process science and climate change, how guilty we should feel about ourselves, and it also suppresses human nature and healthy sexuality. So that's it. I wish people could look past the fairytales about burning bushes, talking snakes, stoning gays, and the like and understand that you can still be a good, moral person without this stuff.

You know nothing about the history of this country do you?

Do you just hate Christians or does your hate also extend to muslims and Jews?

Yes, I do. Obviously the vestiges of Puritanism are still present. They've also metastasized to include prosperity doctrine evangelicalism, a particularly odious brand of "faith".

This. And yes, it applies to like-minded Muslims, too. I have both in my family.

In contrast, I have very moderate, non-judgy religious people of both faiths in my family. These folks are awesome.

Religion is not the problem, intolerance is.

In medieval times, the Inquisition made Catholicism an extreme and intolerant way of life, while the Arab world flourished in the arts, medicine and sciences because Islam was a tolerant and unifying force.

Now things are reversed, but it should teach us that rejection of others and refusal to accept progress and science are ALWAYS a recipe for disaster.

I understand what you mean, OP, but not all Christians are bigotted. Many are actually very kind people who do not judge others for their beliefs (or absence thereof).

You're correct. You are also limited in you're understanding of or exposure to "Christians." They come in many varieties and not just the type you describe above, who unfortunately seem to make the most noise and get most of the attention.

Are you saying that all liberals are hypocrites? If so, that's as bad as assuming all Christians are bigots.

op, do you realize how bigoted you sound? If you really feel this way, please DO move to Canada and tell us how you like it there. You do know there are french Canadians and others, Catholics and non? Probably not. you went once, right?

pp - do you realize how ignorant you sound? Canada, like the US, has freedom of religion, but there, the Christian fundamentalists do not have nearly as much influence as they have in the US

Freedom of Religion is great if (and only if) you are Christians. For others, not so much.
