hot flashes! help!

I've basically been sweating through my shirt off and on all day today... I've had them a couple times before, but it's basically just been one set off by anxiety & then gone.

Any advice on handling?

how long (as in years, months etc) til this phase is over (ie. not each flash but time of life when you get them)? What happens next?

Get a small battery powered fan for your desk at work and at home. I bring mine to the dinner table some nights.

Everyone is different. Mine have been going on for four years and counting. My glasses fog up too.

weird, but I started getting hot flashes. I decided to work out with a personal trainer to force myself to exercise more so I could get some real sleep. And I have been sleeping better and no more hot flashes.

Of course, it could just be that it was a phase and the hot flashes will come back in a few months or so. I just started peri/menopause. So, I'm not sure what is going on. But, the exercise definitely helps.

meant to say weird that the hot flashes started then stopped completely.

I've had them for about three or four years. I've gone through a couple of reprieves lasting 3-4 months, but then they come back. My SIL suggested that cutting back on sugar helps, and I've found that to be true. Whenever I start indulging my sweet tooth or drinking alcohol, they definitely get worse.

So, do hot flashes go on AFTER your period has been gone for a year and you're officially in menopause? Or is it strictly a perimenopause thing (which can go on for some years, from what I understand)?

After two years of being unable to live my life because of the flashes, I started taking HRT. At least this way I can get my kid out of high school without both of us being hormonal.

I am still running warm, but doing fine now. I also don't get nauseated when I exercise anymore since I actually sweat properly.

If you start hot flashes before actual menopause they last longer. Average duration is 6-11 years with AA being on the longer end.

The thermostat must be at 72 degrees or I get hot flashes. If I get hot flashes, I am instantly furious. It is best for everyone if the thermostat is at 72 degrees.

I am 5 years post menopause. The hot flashes started about 4 years before menopause. Maybe I could now tolerate 73 degrees, but let's not chance it.

Talk with your Dr. We loose hormones as we age. Stronger deodorant, more showers, wear cotton , stress less!!,

My hot flashes continue and I am on year 7. I work out a lot and it hasn't really changed. Also, for some reason, the hot weather brings them on- nothing worse than being 90 degrees out and then having a hot flash! My triggers are caffeine, alcohol and heat- then of course I have the night sweats! Fun, fun!

Do you still get your period or are you in menopause already?
