| I know my MS principal is gunning for one, wondering what his chances are. |
| Damascus is the only one that has the opening posted. |
| I think there is an internal database for MCPS teachers showing all the vacancies available within the school district. |
Yes, there is. And Damascus is the only one that is posted. |
| Wish there was a posting for Churchill |
| I have heard that dr Goodwin at Whitman is close to retirement. Those will be big shoes to fill. No obvious successors. |
I second that. |
| We are blessed to have Dr. Benz's leadership at Churchill. |

Leadership in what exactly? Avoiding handling real problems? Talking to students? Providing support to staff? Not |
Really sad that such poor leadership is allowed to remain year after year. If MCPS were to take a survey of parents at the school my guess is that the majority would like to see a regime change ASAP. No one understands why nothing has been done except the tired old "tenure" excuse. |
| Do principals have tenure that way? My concern is that some of the bozos in the pipeline will be promoted to principal instead of looking far and wide for the best candidate. |
Truthfully, there are often very few good candidates, hence the pipeline full of bozos. Principals in MCPS actually do not make very much, compared to what they could make if they stayed as teachers for the long haul, and have a ton of stress and responsibility. DH was recruited for the pipeline, but ended up dropping out when it became clear that the salary didn't match the workload. Seems that most of the people training for admin are attracted to the prestige and power, and that doesn't always make for good leadership. |
+1 I truly believe that she has something on someone because that is the only explanation why they keep this principal with so many stains on her record as principal. |
| I am starting to believe that too--not about her in particular, but in general. There simply is no other explanation for why some of these ineffectual, or worse, abusive people get positions of power. That said, there isn't much prestige in being a principal anyway. If that's what they're after, then they should get out of k-12 education. I love seeing some of these people get off on their power, when the rest of the world is like, ummm, yeah, no. However, when a principal uses their power for good, I have respect for them. |
