I like how people are simultaneously arguing that Taylor definitely didn’t release the variants to knock other female artists out of contention for #1 while also arguing that she did it and everyone does it and it’s fine. |
Yet Taylor’s donated millions to local food banks, world charities, etc each year in recent years. |
We don’t know. There’s no way to know if she did or didn’t. But yes, either way, it is in fact fine. It’s a market. A free one. She can release what she wants when she wants. People can buy what they want when they want. In what sense is she “blocking” others from achieving success when more people could buy that album?! Wtf. It’s not a question of “ethics”. The market is the market. |
And that is where we will disagree. There are no ethical billionaires. I don’t respect her business as being ethical nor do I think taking advantage of people is admirable. Even if she is donating, why does one person get to make those choices of who gets donations? It isn’t a good idea to have one person in charge of so much wealth because that person only sees things from their perspective and will only give to what they want to, not what is most needed. All while her business is using other people to make the cheap items she sells with her name so she can “give away money” You can respect that, but I will see you as naive for thinking anything is really a free market. Our lives are not just supply and demand. You can respect that shit, but know that I and many others find it to be shit. She is a symbol of capitalism in many ways. I think capitalism needs lots of restraints to keep it from eating the world and humanity. Taylor and you clearly disagree with me. You are definitely winning as far as your way is what is happening in the world. The problem is, you are also destroying the world. |
You’re being disingenuous. No one is debating the definition of a free market. But when someone whose whole schtick is about feminism and sisterhood can’t release the 34th variant of her album any other time than when a less prominent female artist is about to go #1, that’s shitty. And it tells you exactly who she is. |
Do the other artists even care? Charlie isn’t going to sell fewer records because Taylor released more songs. And Charlie’s success doesn’t depend on Taylor stepping out of the way. Taylor is obsessed with her place in history—AOTY wins, albums/weeks at #1. I doubt the same even registers for Charlie because she is not operating at the same level as Taylor. |
Nicely done! DP |
And she has always championed younger, up and coming artists. Always. |
Ah. Well, there we have it. The unhinged socialist disapproves not only of TS, but of capitalism in general. I think we can all move on now because it’s clear this person needs therapy. DP |
|
What's confusing is whether she released TTPD at the height of her Travis American sweethearts popularity because she thought 1) this album will be provocative and everyone invested in my love life will positively go berserk, 2) I don't really care if my run of popularity takes a hit with this album because I want to say what I want about my past relationships.
What was her thinking about how this album would land in the middle of her tour? |
Yes, we are done. Once anyone uses “unhinged or “needs therapy” you have clearly moved beyond the ability to construct an argument. Look, we agree on something!
|
DP. I hate when someone throws out "unhinged." It's often a way to quiet a woman from speaking because we're conditioned not to voice our opinions too loudly or appear "hysterical." |
NP. My main gripe about “unhinged” is how it’s used so egregiously here. The word has lost all meaning. Someone will be like “I think hugging my kids is okay” and some lunatic will come along to tell them they’re unhinged. |
It does get thrown around. Kind of like narcissist. |
You are not sane. The world is not being destroyed. You need to calm down. |
