No one cares that she is HALF black, she is a knockoff American made Pippa. Any American, I repeat, ANY AMERICAN would have been ripped to shreds. A white American would be called trash. |
And a black American of course would be called worse than “trash”. I am amazed at the hateful posters here. |
I think some folks are missing the point over the security issues.
Yes the BRB has withdrawn security from other members of the family at different times. Fine. But Beatrice and Eugenie, for instance, are not subject to constant racist criticism and often lies in the tabloids. They are barely known outside the UK unless you care about the British Royals, which many people do not. The issue is that Meghan and Archie are both biracial, the press and even members of the firm were racist and at a minimum uncomfortable about this, Meghan was experiencing serious mental health issues as a result of all this, and the BRB didn’t seem to take any of that into account. Obviously a family member with extremely high press exposure, much of it racist, should get a security detail. It’s not a prize! It’s practical. I get the question about taxpayer funds, but it’s not like Charles and the Queen aren’t wealthy enough on their own to assist with this, which is what any functional family would do. And ignoring it even participating in the racism, ignoring Meghan’s requests for help re:mental health? This stuff is sociopathic. If your response is “eye roll, that’s not how Royal protocol works” you have entire missed the Forrest through the trees. |
I'm kind of over Meghan's fake naivete - how in the world could she not have known that she was marrying into a racist, stodgy, stuck in the 16th century family?
Now, she finds a platform with Oprah to loudly express her outrage over the BRF....and is met with a resounding, DUH!!!! You married into it, if you didn't know what you were getting into, that's on you. There is no "fixing" a monarchy that has existed comfortably without change for 500+ years. Take it or leave it. Don't take it and then complain about it. |
The British tend to view all Americans as being less sophisticated and less refined. And they may be onto something here. |
And that may be so, but we would all be unsuitable for a prince. All of us Americans, for all sorts of vulgar and offensive reasons. |
Why do you even care? I mean, seriously. I get the fight to improve race relations in America, but why even try to fix the BRF and the British media? It's pointless. They should be written off for what they are - uneducated, inbred, and not worthy of any of our time. Leave the conversation. Leave the COUNTRY. Which is what Meghan did. I was proud of them for leaving. And, until this little Oprah shitstorm happened, I thought they had risen above it all and moved on. |
How does this make any sense? I dislike the fact of the BRF full stop - but Meghan married into it! By choice, as a sophisticated person. QEII supported the elimination of primogeniture, which is as oppressive a factor as any Meghan and Harry experienced, and that only happened within the decade. If you think all peers are supposed to be on equal footing and that lines of succession should not exist, then this whole conversation is mooted and we should say God bless to that, correct? But that’s not what Meghan even could have wanted. She wanted to marry the spare. There is no way at all she was unfamiliar with any of this. She may well also have faced cruelty but at what point are adults supposed to act like adults and not claim they were duped by searchable, confirmable realities of life? She did not marry an heir to a throne. And she damned well knew it. |
Yeah, this is pretty much my take as well. Have you seen John Oliver's pre-wedding interview with Colbert? "I hope she likes it. It's going to be weird for her." https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2018/02/meghan-markle-prince-harry-royal-wedding-john-oliver-colbert |
Chelsea and Cressida ran for the hills. |
Totally agree. Every time Will says something, I think less of him, unfortunately. |
You could apply this logic to anything. "You knew that airplanes sometimes crash, so why are you complaining your spouse died in a plane crash?" "People get cancer. They get cancer and die. Everyone dies. Did you think that didn't apply to your child?" "Duh, people get shot at in war. Those injured vets don't have my sympathy, they knew what the risk was when they signed up." |
I'm kinda shocked at how many racist people are on this thread. Meghan is brave in my book to call the BRF out on their racist ways. Love her even more now. |
I'd be curious to know how many hours of footage they had. It was originally supposed to air for 1.5 hours but then expanded to 2 when they saw the public interest. You could tell last night that there was a lot of cutting, like how abruptly the questions started after a commercial break. I got the impression they cut every spare second they could because they had so much material. Oprah said there was additional footage they'd be releasing today/this week on the CBS morning show. |
To be fair, she really didn't have to put up with much--she was only there 2 years. Looks at the rest of them--they have been their for decades and figured out how to handle it. |
