Travel Soccer - Asking for more time

While waiting to hear from DS's club, we got nervous and decided we needed a plan B. As it turns out, DS was invited back to his team and we have 48 hrs to respond. I thought we'd just accept the offer but DS tells us he loves the "plan B" team. We need more time to make a decision. Do clubs ever extend deadlines?

Yes our family always gets screwed and waits a week because someone else has to decline or accept first.

| Clubs always extend deadlines to playmakers. If your kid is the best on the team then you can take as long as you want. If your kid is a bench player you really don't have time. |

From the clubs' standpoint, they have to build teams from the top down and they are in competition with a gazillion other clubs in this area. So I get the reason for the deadlines. What kills me is the clubs that start the process so early in the spring. It is unfair to the players and families to have to commit before the season plays out. If you liken it to business, it's like trying to trying to make a critical decision without having all the relevant information. PP is so right about how the deadlines relate to the quality of the player in question. The kid receiving an offer from the 3rd or 4th level team better accept that offer within 48 hours or it's gone. The DA offer for the rock star can hang out there for months. |

| U9 kid. We asked for more time. I don't get this 48 hour thing unless you are in a super competitive program with a ton of kids at tryouts and your kid was average. They gave us more time because I think they don't have enough interested kids to fill 2 teams. |

Do you know for sure kid is getting a Plan B offer? Do you know for sure it's for the level of team you would like?

If your kid is below the "A" team on his current team they won't care and will probably be bitter that you are asking for the time.
If your kid is a star, they will wait. |

| If you need a couple extra days, just ask and they will probably be fine, or let you know that it is a hard deadline. I wouldn't wait more than a couple days extra. Contact Plan B team and see what they are doing, and you may get a faster decision. |

I'm so sick of these responses. If you want to play rec, go play rec. If you want to play select, accept that the better kids will always be favored. We were in travel for a while, switched back to rec and are much happier. But I don't begrudge the team/program just because I didn't like how competitive it was. |

What upsets you so much about the response you are quoting? The guy didn't say it bothered him. He gave an honest answer. Of course a star will be given more leeway. That is what he said. He told OP if his kid wasn't in that category they best make a decision quick. |

| Call Plan B and see if they can make an offer more quickly. If they want you, they will. |
