Yes I can’t believe anyone is giving her a pass on this. I guess none of them are feds. But what the hell, who wants another elected rep in Arlington with dubious ethics? Although, to read the comments on AEM, they all have dubious ethics too, so... |
Look at the response on AEM. Her supporters couldn’t care less about violations, and the general population isn’t even aware of it. Generally the people who can be expected to speak up about ethical or legal violations are those with skin in the game. This “rule breaker is the injured party” nonsense is disconcerting. How about Symone? Does she really need a school board seat so badly? |
AEM is off the rails. Symone broke the rules and got caught. She knows that. So she set this up to make the ACDC and Tyrron look bad. And AEM just goes right along with it. |
If it somehow puts pressure on the AC/DC to end the caucus ridiculousness I’m ok with it. I doubt they will, though. It’s working exactly as intended. |
Wow. When you put it that way, I will have to vote for Symone in November. I may sit out the caucus. Why can't Arlington field 2 decent candidates for SB? |
I think Terron made a rookie move and is going to get all of the negative blow back, while candidates like Cristina get all of the upside and none of the blame. Who benefits the most from this? |
Have the Terron rumors been verified? Krieger was the one acting desperate over the past few weeks. |
It's stupid yes (the Caucus) but if you want your vote to count that's where you need to vote. Symone has zero change in November. It's a Presidential election year. Trump is on the ballot. Turnout in Arlington will be very high. And most people will vote the sample ballot for school board, which will show who won the caucus. You can not like it. You can wish it would change. But that's how it is. Symone should drop out now and run again next year -- at least in an off Presidential year an Independent has some chance. |
Wowow, you just hit the real point here! Forget about symone, this is the bigger picture. Stop the caucus mess. Eliminate the party’s hold on the school board and we may actually have real progress here in Arlington. I plan to boycott the caucus and vote for symone just to stop the madness. I |
staying home does not stop the madness. staying home makes cristina your new board member. maybe also steven. because their supporters are not staying home.
write a letter. tell them they suck. but still go vote. |
+1000 It looks like only one person on there seems to understand, or even care to know, anything about the Hatch Act. Why is there such a disconnect between the people on this board and those on AEM? The LAW, not any single individual, requires Symone to run as an independent--and not as a Democrat pretending to be an independent. She promoted herself as a conscientious, diligence-oriented federal government attorney with 20 years experience. I therefore find it really hard to believe that she did not know, or could not easily discover, the public opinion that so clearly restricts her participation in the SB caucus. |
Why should someone not vote for Terron simply b/c he reported Symone? I respect him for reporting Symone's violation. If he was truly sneaky, he could have asked someone else to report it so it couldn't be traced back to him. At least that is what I would do if I was in his shoes. For all of you on this board who claimed "I knew from the beginning that Symone was violating Hatch Act", why haven't you reported her? She doesn't seem like a popular candidate on DCUM anyway. I've been planning to vote for Munnell, and my other vote will go to either Terron or Priddy. Terron's resume is a bit thin, but he seems harmless at least. Also his kids go to Swanson and Yorktown which is the schools my kid will go to (although my kid is only 2 yo), so my personal interest is more or less aligned with his. That said, I'm happy as long as the two winners are among Munnell, Priddy, or Terron. I don't have a strong preference among them. Just not the other candidates please. |
He’s a new APS parent. He just got married a few months ago. |
He’s a new APS parent. He just got married a few months ago. His website says he got married in 2018, but does it really matter whether he's a "new" parent or not? Or, for that matter, whether he's "just a stepdad" (which is kind of what seems implied here)? He is a stepparent to kids in Swanson and Yorktown, so I think that counts, and it looks like he's been involved with Arlington kids for a long time. My husband is a stepfather and he's a much better dad to my children than their biological father is. But I also don't think that being childless should disqualify you from serious consideration for SB, so maybe I'm not the norm. |
Do not boycott the caucus. That is the only chance to make sure Christina is not on the ballot. Whoever is on the ballot for Democrats is going to win. Independence don’t stand a chance |
