Disagree. Vote Kavanaugh in tomorrow. This alleged event occurred over thirty years when Justice Kavanaugh was a teenager. It’s not remotely relevant today. Not. Remotely.
Impressive Dem Hail Mary though.

This is easy. If people come forward with accusations that are substantiated with evidence, then I say they should be heard. I wouldn't want a thief or an assailant on the supreme court either. Republicans are so lame. You really don't have a problem with what he did, huh?

DP. What, exactly, is the substantiating evidence here? All we have is a he said/she said scenario. If anything, liberals are "so lame." The liberals on this thread want him tried for rape and his daughters sent to foster care. I've seen and heard it all now. You people deserve one another.

Sexual assault accusations are credible because they're so damn plausible. Women are being assaulted by men frequently.

It's extremely plausible that an early 80s all-boys prep school guy was forcing himself on a 15 year old girl. Is that the same as conclusive? No. But the woman has evidence that she was talking about this to a therapist 6 years ago.

The standard for criminal conviction is "beyond a reasonable doubt."
The standard for civil judgment is "preponderance of evidence."
The standard for confirmation to a lifetime appointment on the nation's most powerful court should be lower than that.
The standard for delaying the confirmation hearings for a thorough investigation is lower still. I think the accuser has met at least this standard.

Very well explained.

And sad.

I can date my notes with any date I want.

Oh my gosh wow, you’ve figured it out! The accuser, husband, and therapist concocted this! They met a few times in secret to write the plot, then the therapist forged notes from 6 years prior. Oh wait, maybe actually the accuser had a real therapist, but gave her details about a 35 year-old incident so that 6 years later she could pick and choose which official(s) dream job to snatch away.

He’s not independent, according to her account.

And let’s think this through. If he was a witness, then there was an incident, but they differ on describing what happened? So what does this “witness” (to what?) think happened, specifically?

Kavanaugh's buddy, Mark Judge, didn't say she was lying. He said he didn't remember. He has also written about how he got blackout drunk a lot in high school. So he's really no help to Kavanaugh. And if you look at Judge's other writings, he seems like the kind of guy who would assault women. (His yearbook quote: "Certain women should be struck regularly, like gongs.") Kavanaugh shouldn't be held accountable for Judge; but his association with the guy isn't going to help him at all.

I believe that Judge and Kavanaugh don't recall the incident.

I believe they pulled stuff like this all the time.

I believe they were both drunk.

And I believe they didn't know Blasey Ford well at all. The guys from Prep really didn't party with girls from Holton Arms. I bet the party was a prep party, and that's why she can't recall whose house it was (it wasn't the home of a HA classmate or someone from Landon or Bullis).

So by this argument, he did participate in this incident.

And he lied.

Under oath.

Is that not disqualifying?

Even if he gets confirmed, she will always be a role model for exposing the truth even when it disrupted her life.

I bet most of those women didn't go to HA. I bet they went to AHC, Stone Ridge, Visi, Immaculata, Oakcrest.

Have you ever known or been a high school girl? Here's a little secret: a story like this would have been shared contemporaneously. NOT saved for years. Had she been raped, she might not have shared, but this is the kind of story a girl would share. Hiding in the bathroom, etc.

She doesn't remember what year it was?
She doesn't remember how she left the house?

If it had happened and was that traumatic, she would have remembered.

Yes, I have. And because of that, I believe her. I also believe the 65 women who signed the letter stating they think he is a saint. Both things can be true and she is likely telling the truth. This kind of stuff routinely happened to me and my friends. We didn’t talk about it until recently with the metoo stuff. He needs to step down. We cannot have another assaulter on the Supreme Ct. Not in 2018.

I absolutely agree. I am sure this Brett K would never assault a woman now. He has grown and matured, like most men who do stupid things in their youth (unlike the Weinsteins of this world). However, in the light of other things he has said, his writings, etc, it shows that he is someone that did grow up with a particular respect for women. So when it comes to decisions on birth control and abortion, I am very concerned he might not respect women either.

Difference between Kavanaugh and Weinstein is that the former is an attractive man who women would find appealing. Weinstein is a toad and women found him attractive only because of his power and money.

Speak for yourself. They’re both toads.

Just out of curiosity: is there a number of accusers after which you’d begin to take the claims seriously, or is it just a partisan reflex for you? Like Kavanaugh could have 13 kidnapped girls in his basement but he’s a Republican and it’s okay or what? Because speaking as a Democrat (a real one, not the “Democrats” who have been so vocal about Brett’s innocence on all these threads), Harvey Weinstein is a repellent goon and I hope he end soon up I need prison serving some hard time. The only downside is that all the people who enabled him all those years can’t face some sort of punishment.

This is bad. This is very bad. And I bet there will be more victims.

Not the PP. Let me get this straight. You're hypothesizing that Kavanaugh "could have kidnapped 13 girls in his basement but he's a Republican and it's okay." Um, you do realize that one situation is not remotely like the other, correct? ONE person has accused him of assaulting her. Not rape. ONE person, with zero evidence. And yet you think we would be reacting the same way in both scenarios? Because he's a Republican??

You people are truly sick.

Is there a magical age at which him attempting rape or successfully raping a woman would bother you?

This is one person's word against another. Interesting that you completely dismiss his word over hers. Why is that?

Interesting that you assume every potential nominee has a history of sexual misconduct.

PP didn't assume that at all. PP pointed out that no matter who Trump nominates, it's a given that there will be a convenient MeToo accusation to prevent a confirmation. Which only (further) destroys liberal "credibility." Get it?

What do you expect? A video tape? This was decades before iphones were available. All assault cases at that point were "he said vs. she said."

Thanks for your explanation. Obviously I disagree with it, since I happen to know certain nominees to whom this did not happen.

You clearly believe the accuser. I do not.

Of course you don’t. Women are never to be believed by GOPers.

False , I believe kellyanne and Sarah Huckabe Sanders. I believed Paula Jones and still believe Juanita Broadderick. You?

Are we only allowed to believe women who accuse Democrats or blindly defend Trump?

It’s 100% partisan for the GOP. And I actually doubt pp when he says he believes Paula Jones and Juanita Brodderick. I think PP, like many men in the GOP, don’t believe it’s rape if the woman did anything “wrong.” Unless it was a stranger abducting a modestly dressed, church going virgin going home from her respectable job at a decent hour, they literally believe it’s the woman’s fault and it doesn’t count unless it was violent and she did everything she could fight them off to preserve her modesty.

They can pretend otherwise, but their words betray them.

I find it very curious that you're assuming the PPP is a man. You do realize most posters here are women, right? And many women disagree with you. Is that something you can wrap your mind around?

I’m not sick. Cons on here have said he should get a free pass since it was so far in the past. He should get a free pass to commit sexual assault up until age 52. That we shouldn’t even slow down a supreme court nomination to investigate. That they wouldn’t believe any accusers until there were many. That they wouldn’t believe them no matter what. That she is paid to do this. That she’s doing this for fame and money and a book deal. That this is ridiculous. That what he is alleged to have done is no big deal. That women are always making this up. That it was her fault because she’d had a beer. That she isn’t trustworthy because she can’t remember specifics. That she’s lying because she didn’t report it then. That she’s lying because she hasn’t filed charges. That she’s conning us because of her maiden name.

You are part of rape culture. You are part of what doubly victimizes victims. I am pointing out that Kavanaugh could have 13 victims in his basement right now and you and your ilk would not give a damn.
