Snow day

2 day closure for sure. Have any of you been out? I did a 1.5 mile walk in my neighborhood. Sidewalks have 6+ inches on them and nothing is going to melt with a high of 27. It doesn’t matter if you think the layer band will be negligible, this amount of snow isn’t going to be cleared enough for school tomorrow.

I have. It's a crazy amount of snow for this part of the country. (I've lived other snowier states and I've been here 6 years and have seen nothing like this.) On the other hand, I've seen them shut everything down for a light dusting of snow in the afternoon.

What? It’s like 6 inches. A “crazy amount of snow” for this part of the country is triple that. We get 6 inches most years .

Not anymore, we don’t. The storm is the biggest in three years, and more than the last two years combined.

This isn’t Minneapolis or Buffalo.

If you've been here for 6 years than you have seen something like this. You don't sound trustworthy.

When in the last 6 years was their snow like this? Are you a contrarian bot?

We had snow like this a few years ago, maybe 3 years? It's not like Snowmaddeon or anything, but it's more than we've had in the last two years.

No, the snow from 2-3 years ago was not like this. I remember because I was actually out there in the trenches. It didn't last very long either.

My guess is off tomorrow, 2hr delays the rest of the week so that high schoolers don’t have to get to school in the dark with the ice

+1 My guess as well but it’s possible they are closed Weds if they can’t clear out all the schools tomorrow and if road conditions are still iffy. But we won’t be closed the rest of the week IMO.

I would love to agree with you but no way. Not with 8+ inches of snow.

Best case scenario is a two hour delay on Wednesday.

But parts of Reston are only getting 6" of snow! So they should definitely go to school tomorrow!

Fairfax one! We already have 7 inches on Chantilly/centreville/south riding border-sorry.

Interesting. Jay’s Wintry Mix says no one in Loudoun (which borders you) got more than 5” so far.

Wait, some guy with a Facebook page says something different from actual meteorologists with with massive resources behind them? Well, I’m sold.

He’s well know and respected. And CWG agrees. Can tell you don’t actually follow weather.

Channel 4 just stated 5.5-6 inches in Loudoun so I’m not sure why y’all have your knickers in a knot?

I do agree kids should be in school, mostly to limit exposure to the toxicity of their home environment.

Another guess for a delayed start Wed. Nothing is going to change the conditions as they are and we've been ready for this storm for a while so roads and crews have been on standby.

You must not be in FCPS. Middle school starts before high school.

I doubt plows will get to all of the neighborhood streets by Wednesday morning.

Getting to literally every street is not a requirement to reopen schools. Bus stops are usually on more well traveled roads, which will be plowed.

I really think we will have a 2 hr delay tomorrow. Some people will be overjoyed, some will be angry.

They’re not opening today or tomorrow, dimwit. The roads aren’t going to be a mess indefinitely. It’s 6 inches of snow!!! It’s not 2 feet!
