First -- yeah they do. But also, that's explicable. It surprises no one that a public person would photoshop a photo to make themselves look better or younger. And if they'd just photoshopped a photo of Kate and the kids to make her or them look younger or more attractive, people would gossip but it wouldn't be a full blown conspiracy theory. In fact that is exactly what happened when they released the holiday photo last year that had some glaring photoshop errors in it -- people joked about it online but there were no conspiracy theories. It was just a dumb, funny thing. That's also the deal with Harry's hair -- it's just silly vanity, whatever.

Trust me, if Meghan or Harry disappeared from public view for months and their people started issuing strange and inconsistent explanations for it, and then they posted a photo of their family online that appeared to be heavily edited NOT to make anyone look more attractive but to disguise something amiss with the photo, and also was maybe taken in another year but they claimed it was a few days old, people would be losing their minds and I feel pretty confident would be MUCH more critical of H&M for doing it.

This is very different from photoshopping in a slightly fuller hairline.

The recipients don't assume the photo was taken just before the card was sent.

This Instagram post was not an ordinary Mother's Day greeting. The photo was posted specifically as proof of Kate's wellbeing to counter the wild speculation and conspiracy mongering that was beginning to take hold, and it was labeled as having been taken by William in the past week.

This. If they hadn't tried to claim the photo was taken a few days ago and was evidence of Kate doing well, I don't think people would have cared about the photoshopping one way or the other. The issue is not the photo itself, but the context it was posted in and the clearly false claims they are making about it. It begs the question: why??

Even if that's true, it has nothing to do with doctoring a photo. Her martial status doesn't impact whether or not she can take a picture.
