This feels like trolls won. Only internet sleuths cared about the positions of their fingers. If this were that important why didn't these esteemed media sites review them before publication?

Actually, I care and I'm not a royal watcher. Look more closely. The lawn is a verdant green and the tree is green (it's still dreary in England and the trees haven't even budded). Her head looks photoshopped on. There is a misalignment in Princess Charlotte's hands; Prince Charlotte's pink cardigan is cut off at the wrist; Kate's knees don't look right; Prince Louis is missing a fingertip (unless it's folded under); a section of the tiles are blurred; and of course, Kate's engagement ring and wedding band are missing.

An overseas news outlet noted that it's from an earlier Mother's Day, which would account for the green grass and tree.

I'm interested because something is up and the palace is covering. THAT is newsworthy.

So why didn't Reuters et al reject it for publication then?

But at least it’s an actual photo of him. Not him photoshopped into a place that he never was.

He’s not a working royal! Private citizens get to do whatever they want.

They took what was submitted and face value! Later they found out they had been duped so took corrective measures.

Because they trusted the source AKA the official accounts that posted it? Why did they manipulate the photo so much in the first place? They didn't just jeopardize their own credibility but other publications. Shame on them for that

I didn’t notice it either, it was the first IG post in my feed upon looking this AM. It wasn’t until others started dissecting the photo that I caught on.

The blame is, it appears, on William.

Is she incapacitated?

Or swollen from steroids (maybe that 1st photo in the car was her)….

Bingo.

Does British press know that she’s not there?

What is the C for? Charles? I thought it was from William?

Uh…Catherine??

So the post was from Catherine?

This is so much worse than we can imagine.

No one would raise an eyebrow if the photoshopping just made a recovering woman look a little healthier, i.e. adding some color to her cheeks, smoothing some facial lines, etc. That would be on par with the touchups you can order on your 4th grader's school photo. Splicing in a completely different image is downright deceitful. It is creating a tableau that doesn't exist.

Likewise, posting a routine Mother's Day greeting with a photo from months ago is no different than sending a Christmas card with a photo of your family all dressed in matching Christmas pajamas that was taken in October in order to get the cards ordered and sent out by the holiday season. The recipients don't assume the photo was taken just before the card was sent.

This Instagram post was not an ordinary Mother's Day greeting. The photo was posted specifically as proof of Kate's wellbeing to counter the wild speculation and conspiracy mongering that was beginning to take hold, and it was labeled as having been taken by William in the past week.

If true it’s so not well thought through.
