No. Why would I be? They’re trying to raise money to replace the crappy ass projectors our children’s classrooms.

Why are you annoyed?

They already had a fall fundraiser and how about the county buys them instead of badgering parents? Or how about, God forbid, they do something in the classroom without technology? Like actual paper and pencil work instead of the screens crap. Parents want less screen time.

This was discussed ad nauseam at the last general PTO meeting. FCPS will not pay to replace the projectors until the school gets refurbished (…in 2033).

Also, I would argue that SMARTboards are the one piece of technology that classroom teachers actually need to effectively teach their lessons. Teachers, correct me if I’m wrong

You expect them to have only one fundraiser a year?

How old are the current projectors and why is replacement necessary ? Are the teachers having problems with the current ones? Will the new ones have better functionality? Genuinely curious as I have not been able to attend PTO meetings this year. Also, I would like to add that I think the PTO is doing a great job and very active this year. I think the read -a-thon is going really well. Kids will enjoy DJ tomorrow!

According to meeting minutes: Current projectors are between 10-12 years old in k-5 and 8 years old in 6th.

Yes, the teachers are having issues. At literacy night there was a QR code on the back of the pamphlet that showed the current state of projectors in the classrooms. It was pretty shocking.

The new ones will have much better functionality. Also explained in the video from literacy night pamphlet.

Completely agree about the PTO. It’s a thankless job (as PP in this thread so kindly highlighted) but they are doing a great job this year. As is the new principal. Can’t blame him because parents are making legal left turns from Thompson onto west ox road and holding up the line. Take that up with the county.

Thanks for posting. I just logged into the app and the website and there is so much information, including what you posted. What a great revamp!

You’re definitely on the PTO. I have heard the complete opposite from the teachers.

Oh girl. You could not pay me enough to be on the PTO. But I do use kiss and ride every morning and have had several interactions with the principal - all of which have been positive. I stand by my comment.

A couple of quick hellos at kiss n ride aren’t really telling. Ask parents whose kids have real issues and who have actually had to have a real talk to the principal about them. Ask them what they think. He hasn’t handled situations well.

No. They are not supported anymore in the county and newer schools have the projector projecting on a white board. Mine doesn’t work and I want it down. But it costs the school $2500 to take it down.

I didn't see this in the meeting minutes, but if the readathon raises 30k, will there be enough money for the new projectors or will there need to be another fundraiser later on?
