Woodward HS boundary study - BCC, Blair, Einstein, WJ, Kennedy, Northwood, Wheaton, Whitman impacts

What will most likely happen there is some students may be shifted to BCC, and maybe---hard maybe, some students living closer to the mall could be redistricted to Woodward. I don't see anything else being possible, nor do I see the likelihood of any students being moved into Whitman from other schools

Why not? Both Whitman and Pyle are projected to have empty seats available.

My DH does not feel similarly and thinks that the recent supreme court decision on affirmative action may limit MCPS's ability to use diversity as a factor in boundary studies/rezoning. He thinks that any legal action on those grounds may been seen as having merit. Thoughts?

is it possible that some WJ will be rezoned for Einstein?

Sure, it's possible. But Einstein is also very overcrowded, so it would require a lot of rezoning from Einstein to other schools too.

When they approved the study in March, this section below was included in the "Resolved"s.

Resolved, That due to the extent of the boundary study, a Request for Proposal will be issued to hire a consultant to support Montgomery County Public Schools staff with the boundary study process, including, but not limited to, facilitation and community engagement; and be it further

Resolved, That an anticipated timeline for the boundary study process to determine the service area for the reopening of Charles W. Woodward High School is provided below:
• Spring 2023-Request for Proposal is released
• Summer 2023-Board of Education approves consultant

Has anyone heard anything about if the request for proposal was in fact released so they could hire the consultant? I don't remember seeing anything about it.

I think they have WXY on retainer for this stuff, so no need to actually solicit proposals.

Then why would they include those two lines in the timeline?

Government agencies are generally required to do a competitive bidding process and select the low bidder.

Still no word about this RFP or consultant...

What were the boundaries like for Woodward before the school was closed?

Unfortunately, MCPS will redraw the boundaries for some agenda rather than what is best for the community and the kids. I’m sure some busing will be involved.

If the parents don't like the boundaries, make sure you vote out any BOE incumbent next year! Can't fire McKnight until that happens!

The boundaries won't even be decided until spring 2025.

If the boundaries are decided in 2025, who are the oldest kids who will be moved? I'm the parent of a current 8th grader, class of 2028, who is currently zoned for Einstein. Is it possible that they'll be moved mid high school? Her first choice is CAP. If she's admitted and starts, could she be made to leave if our house is moved out of the DCC? What if she's in a non-selective program?

In previous boundary studies,

rising 9th graders started at the newly-assigned school unless they were admitted to special program in the previously-assigned school
rising 10th graders moved to the newly-assigned school unless they were in a special program in the previously-assigned school
rising 11th graders stayed at the previously-assigned school
rising 12th graders stayed at the previously-assigned school

Some busing will certainly be involved, because there aren't 2,700 high school students at addresses currently assigned to Walter Johnson, Whitman, B-CC, Einstein, Northwood, Kennedy, Blair, or Wheaton, who live within a two-mile walk of the school.

Also, it would be great if some of this busing would be via RideOn and/or Metrobus, but I don't know whether that will happen.

Those boundaries are utterly meaningless for this discussion. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then.
