There are millions of financially underprivileged families where no child would ever suffer like that.

Many, many children “suffer like that”, unfortunately.

Could you name one other child that had been forced to parade behind his dead mother’s coffin on live tv? Of the millions you claim exist?

The children I’m thinking about aren’t ‘important’ enough to have been on TV at all, silly! But mu DH was an orphan by 11 so I do think that often people can move on.

So you’d have hugged and let her borrow your lip gloss

Which is what Kate did. But apparently her crime was not doing it with sufficient enthusiasm.

Exactly! H&M are projecting and who knows how K felt?

Did you read the book? They tried doing that in an isolated/rural place on Vancouver Island. It lasted 6 weeks before the media found them.

They had just left UK then, with time media interest must've decreased, if they kept to themselves.

DP. I think you are underestimating the impact of going through that under intense public/media scrutiny that follows for years afterward.

Oh please.

How about the impact of going through that and getting no support at all, like everyone else???

How are they supposed to support themselves in the meantime (including funding adequate security for their family) without working? It's not like Harry could just get a job at the local general store given the media stalking him.

I would not have hugged. I do a quick namaste now when people are coming towards me. The lip gloss thing… I would have lent it. Then thrown it out. M could have used a plastic spoon or something to take some off. Or gone without. People need to understand physical boundaries. But I would not have complained to Harry. I would have told M that I’m not a hugger. I would not have specifically mentioned the lip gloss but I would have said that I’m a germ phone in all ways.

Dp.

Do you not realize how badly out of touch it is for him to complain?

Yep, privileged people should just suck up any mistreatment by others.

I certainly hope you never complain about anything, because you are a hell of a lot more privileged than many people in the world.

The book is about a complaint. He’s complaining about the Royal Family.

It's interesting to me how many people give their fellow DCUMer a hard time for being privileged, expecting too much from their family, etc., but are willing to give Harry a pass. Can you imagine if someone wrote here about growing up in Great Falls and then getting cut off at age 25, in any circumstance? (Let alone a price in his 30s?)

It’s the “any circumstances “ parts that make the difference though.

It’s hard to imagine someone from Great Falls being required to be a public figure —from birth, with the universal understanding that they were literally born to work, publicly, in the family firm, and be subordinate to their parent, elder sibling, and that elder sibling’s kids Forever. If you can find such a person in Great Falls, I’m certainly open to discussing giving them a pass or two, and that’s without the abuse and neglect pieces.

+1. Also, that person’s family should be so high profile that press would stalk them to remote islands in another country only accessible by boat and break into their backyard while their young child is playing outside.
