| Does anyone watch this? I just watched the season finale and am BLOWN AWAY... These kids are cooking up some phenomonal food. Gordon Ramsey get on my nerves a bit and the dramatic pauses are annoying, but the food.... OMG!!! |
| I like watching Chopped Junior with my kid. (I can't stand Gordon Ramsey.) |

I love watching with my kid. It's even inspired her to eat and cook different foods.

I'm curious to know what happens off -screen. Are the kids mentored by a real chef with a gigantic cookbook and they pick one out and plan for it?
Are the kids taught safety and food prep - raw meat doesn't share a cutting board with raw veggies? Is the timer/clock edited in for show when in reality the kids are taking their time? So nobody is rushing with their ginsu knife trying to cut parsley or to ensure the beef is cooked at least medium well? |
| My friends' kid was on a few seasons ago. Finished around 8th place or so. Now he does cooking demonstrations, took over a restaurant kitchen for a special event recently, etc. The kids are legitimately amazing. Plus, they cook for their families. I'm ready for my kid to cook dinner every night. |
Are you the parent from yesterday who only just started letting your 9 yr old use scissors? The kids can only be on the show if they have a history of cooking. That means they already HAVE knife skills and know about contamination. |
There was a great article on Buzzfeed answering exactly this question a few years ago: https://www.buzzfeed.com/emofly/behind-the-scenes-of-the-cutest-cooking-show-on-television?utm_term=.nb08rbd65#.pw9kjLApg |
Wait ... why would they want to ensure that? Medium-well beef would probably get a child sent home. |
That was a fantastic read, thank you! |
| I know the kid that won last night. I have not had a chance to talk to her or her mother yet. What impressed the heck out of me is that she has known she was the winner since the show started airing, but has said nothing. My kids would have blabbed it to the whole world. |
| I just watched the finale the other night and meant to google or ask on my FB page if anyone had ever heard that the show was staged or scripted, but I never got around to it. Just found this thread, so I'm guessing it's all legit and the way it looks on tv?!? |

I watch with my kids. They live it. I am amazed by those kids!
One thing I've noticed is that reality tv about adults exploits the tears and fights and catty behavior. Even encourages it for drama. Reality tv about kids preserves their dignity. |
