I decided I want my nursery painted bright orange - Mexican style, but I have no idea what color scheme I should get for the decoration. I am also having a terrible time finding something I like in terms of bedding, but since I don't really plan on using a crib bumper, pillow and quilt I think I only really need cute crib sheets.
I would prefer to have white furniture, but it so happens I got a very good crib/glidder for free in natural wood stain. I also got a white changing table for free - not sure if I keep it white or paint? I don't know the gender of the baby and want it to be a surprise, so I was thinking that I should have a circus or animals motive - I can't think of anything else that would be gender neutral. Help! |
| White furniture, yellow accents. Circus theme sounds cute. |
Yeah, but I got a very nice/expensive crib and rocking chair natural/honey color. |

I love orange and I'm by no means trying to rain on your parade, but I think it would be easier to pick the bedding first and then match the rest of the room to this. I think you could drive yourself crazy picking a paint color and trying to find everything to coordinate with the orange.
I know when I was trying to figure out the nurseries it amazed me how difficult it was finding bedding I liked in the right price range. My first nursery I did gender neutral and unless it has changed a lot in the last 7 years, there were not a lot of options. |

You could add lime green as your accent color. I would keep the glider and crib in honey, just get the rest of the furniture in white. It doesn't have to all match exactly. I think the key to making something like this work is to not have too many colors. If the walls are orange, keep most everything else neutral - whites and beiges - with a few color accents here and there.
Circus sounds cute. Other gender neutral themes - teddy bears, ducks, frogs, zoo. Try doing a google image search on "orange nursery" and see what comes up. |
| Some blue and yellow might also look nice as an accent color. |
| Lots of the jungle-theme bedding sets would look nice with orange walls and natural wood furniture. |
| I would do dark/bright blue or a strong green. |
Too much like a sports team. |
| what about brown? too football-ly? |

gold and purple
i think any light to medium wood stain goes fine with practically anything. so you mix & match with white furniture too.. who cares? it's not like you're trying to mix green painted furniture with red painted furniture. |
| brown and white or gray and white go really well with orange, and I second the jungle theme. There are lots of cute modern bedding, wall decal and art ideas around this color scheme too. |

| How about turquoise with the orange? |
| Your child may not sleep well in an orange room. Maybe something more peaceful would work? I think I should offer consultations on creating optimal sleeping environments for babies. I seem to have a talent for helping babies get enough rest/sleep. The environment plays a big role. I would love to help. Would you like to be my trial client? |
