I know DCUM generally thinks Annandale is the festering sore of Fairfax county and wish it would just secede--terrible schools, poor brown people, etc. But, it has to be a matter of time before it comes up, right? It's inside the beltway and has some great housing stock, including the MCM heaven that is Lake Barcroft. It seems like it has to be an investor's dream. Why is it not the next South Arlington?
We just sold our starter house here, and are looking for something bigger in the "better" FCPS school districts (Burke, West Springfield, etc) but I kinda love it here and would really prefer to spend our $740 on this beauty: https://www.redfin.com/VA/Falls-Church/6348-Crosswoods-Dr-22044/home/9644614 rather than some boring Mcmansion that's going to add 30+ minutes to my SO's commute. But it's hard to get past a GS score of 2, even if you don't buy into the reductive self fulfilling prophecy of Great Schools. Can someone give me hope? Any reason to think Annandale schools will are going to get better? |
Annandale Schools? It says Stuart HS. That's Falls Church. |
I'm in Annandale and am zoned to Stuart, which is in Falls Church. They are separated by a road (Sleepy Hollow). |
Yeah, hope they speed up the deportation process and get rid of DACA participants. Watch this area go sky high. Everyone would gain 200k of equity. Not even exaggerating. |
What's DACA? |
Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. Influx of Central and South American unaccompanied minors with zero English, thousands of whom were placed into FFX schools and paid for by you and I. Our school ratings are in the toilet because of it. 70% of our school is reduced free lunch. And even though we are close in our housing values suffer because the schools are over-crowded and very very bad. |
Really nice house and very nice hood. Send your kids to private like your neighbors. |
In other words, you want someone else to stay there and make things better while you slum it out in Burke? |
Ha. My public school is right next to Annandale/Sleepy Hollow (I'm also zoned for Stuart) and my neighbors claim to be super liberal but send their kids to private even though they have money problems (the wife likes to tell random stuff like this). She is very adamant to assure me without prompting about how it's because it's just easier since they started in daycare there. LMAO. Hypocrisy. |
Three kids. Can't afford private. |
Ummm. No. I want to slum it in Annandale in a gorgeous house on Lake Barcroft. I was asking whether anyone thought the school situation would improve. |
OP again: for the record, my kids go to Mason Crest Elem., which is like 65% Hispanic (and maybe 55% FARMS) and I love it. I don't want to live in a sterile, white enclave. But I also want the best for my kiddos. |
If you like MCM, there are a few more modern-ish neighborhoods in Burke. Here's one: https://www.redfin.com/VA/Burke/9303-Raintree-Rd-22015/home/9735288
I don't see anything on the market now in this neighborhood though. |
Thanks. I wasn't familiar with that area. I'll keep an eye out for new listings around there. |
OP, keep an eye out for one of the mid-century moderns for sale in Mantua. The neighborhood is zoned for Frost Middle and Woodson High. It's not that much farther out that Lake Barcroft. Here's an example of a MCM that sold last year.
