You can find some information about Wakefield here (just keep scrolling down until you're near the bottom): http://thebullelephant.com/northern-virginia-sat-scores-by-school-for-2016/ |
I think some fcps will trend upwards but Stuart has a long way to go, so if you have school aged kids it's unlikely it will be a school on par with Marshall in 10 years. I think a lot of UMC families in that area send their kids to private, just like the UMC families in the Mount Vernon area (another place with gorgeous homes). The schools get better when more economically successful families send their kids to public. Honestly my opinion is just speculation. If I could predict the future ...... Also redistricting or special programs like magnets could make Stuart better.
I hear you re long commutes, Good luck on finding the right house! There have been discussions over in the VA schools board about the future of FCPS. You might want to ask this question about Stuart there. |
This is some really compelling stuff! TC Williams scored ( on average) 27 points higher! Wow. Your kid could attend class is a volatile environment, witness beat downs in the hallway every day, AND possibly score 27 more points on the SAT. I'M SOLD! |
FFX is throwing a lot of resources at Stuart. It might not be 10 years, maybe 15 or 20... There's potential there. |
There are certain parts around here that is very ugly (Seven Corners to Bailey's - but even around there there are pockets of nice neighborhoods) but the area around Lake Barcroft/Sleepy Hollow is beautiful. There are also some nice neighborhoods in Annandale. |
Honestly, everyone knows that Wakefield has an especially low cohort of higher achieving kids. TC is a big, diverse school with great crew (classic UMC sport) teams. Wakefield is worse than TC, Stuart, Annandale, etc. |
Yes TC is so great. That's why it's a GS 2! Oh wait! Buffy and Todd and row - so it must be outstanding! The only thing consistent over there are fights. Lol. Nope. Sorry. The younger middle class families have made their choice. It's Wakefield. But keep putting pressure on ACPS to get you that segregated school you are praying for. It might happen one day! I do agree that Annandale used to be good and that Stuart has potential. But if I were to invest in any of the lower performing schools, it would be Wakefield. People want Arlington. Deal with it. |
You ought to talk to the folks in Arlington Forest. They certainly didn't want Wakefield and neither do most people who care about education. There isn't a single group at Wakefield that on average does well, and that won't change with all the plans to saddle South Arlington with even more AH. Nervous, much? |
Really? Like what? |
Oh those silly older gen x in Arlington Forest. Maybe they really are always getting a raw deal? Wouldn't know. Those of us who are 15 years away from high school can't really be bothered with the orange shirts. Too busy watching out schools improve and property values soar... I suppose I'd be upset if I thought I paid a premium for a certain school. Of course I didn't. That would be silly, as school boundaries change. |
Your schools aren't improving and more AH will ensure they never do. And there aren't many people in South Arlington in their early 30s with school-age kids or direct experience with APS. |
Sorry but Hoffman Boston is awesome
So is Henry, Oakridge, and Claremont Of course they weren't all that good 10-15 years ago, but since all the young families started moving in, it's really taken off. #blessed |
They aren't that great now. Come back when Wakefield doesn't have the second lowest SATs in NoVa. Until then we don't really care about where you buy your starter homes. |
This thread got nasty. |
I went to Wakefield and I turned out okay!
My brother's kids went to TC and they turned out great, one is an engineer with a master's from GW, the other two have degrees from GMU. I live in Annandale and I love it. Very diverse and the people are lovely. Used to live in quirky Falls Church City, not for me anymore. |
